Director of Corporate Strategy
In this role, the Director will play a crucial role leading and shaping Medical Mutual’s multi-year strategic plan, driving internal initiatives, and ensuring the organization’s continued growth and success in the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
The Director of Corporate Strategy will report directly to the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. In addition, this leader will collaborate closely with the executive leadership team, and other senior leaders across the organization, to align on strategic priorities and goals, support execution of the strategic plan, provide thought leadership on critical initiatives, and support decision-making through actionable insights and recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Strategy Management: Partner with PMO, Financial, HR, and other internal functions to monitor and evaluate the performance of strategic initiatives, measure key performance indicators (KPIs), and provide regular reports and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Corporate Initiatives: Play a key role in our ongoing activation of MedMutual Next, the company’s multi-year strategic plan, by driving strategic projects and programs to enable the company’s growth and enhance operational efficiency. Partner with key stakeholders across the organization to facilitate change management and ensure successful adoption of new operating models, ways of working, and processes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ad-Hoc Strategy Development: Lead development of line-of-business and off-cycle strategies sponsored by executive leaders. Ability to manage internal engagements with key stakeholders. Leverage strategic frameworks, tools, and data to solve complex problems and address strategic questions. Provide insights and recommendations based on market intelligence and rigorous analysis.
- Strategic Planning & Execution: Lead and support the development of certain elements of Medical Mutual’s strategy. Lead the formulation of business cases and risk assessments to support executive-decision making. Oversee comprehensive market and industry analyses to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks. Develop strategic initiatives and roadmaps to advance Medical Mutual’s top priorities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective alignment and implementation of strategic plans, monitoring progress, and adjusting as needed.
- Leadership and Team Management: Manage Strategy Analyst(s) and provide leadership and guidance to the broader strategy function, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and high performance. Set performance objectives, conduct performance evaluations, deliver coaching, and development opportunities to team members. Foster strong cross-functional relationships and promote collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing successful strategic plans, multi-year strategies, and fact-based business cases. Ability to conduct market analysis, develop actionable recommendations, and create execution roadmaps.
- Experience leading and support enterprise-wide strategic planning processes within matrix organizations
- Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and managing strategic projects from inception to execution
- Advanced degree (MBA, JD, MHA) preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare, Finance, Economics, or a related field with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in corporate strategy, strategic planning, management consulting, or investment banking, preferably in the healthcare industry.
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to influence and engagement stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
- Be comfortable with ambiguity and change
- Strong business acumen and financial literacy, with experience in financial modeling, budgeting, and performance analytics
- Exceptional communications and presentation skills, including superb power point development skills
- Servant leader with the ability to coach and develop talent. Embody MMO core behaviors and competencies
- Strong knowledge of the healthcare industry, with primary focus on health plans (payers) and corresponding lines of business – Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, Commercial, and ASO.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and make strategic recommendations.
