Job Description

Background: Pasadena Media is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation that oversees the public, education, and government (PEG) access media operations for the City of Pasadena. The organization received the Overall Excellence Award in PEG access from the Alliance for Community Media in 2019 and 2021.


Description: Under the supervision of the Executive Director CEO, the Director of Community Engagement is responsible for all aspects of community development and membership services. The position includes supervision and evaluation of community development staff, interns, and volunteers. Duties include supporting day-to-day operations and providing consistent, timely communication and feedback. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced customer service environment. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.


Responsibilities

Community Outreach

  • Produce and occasionally crew Arroyo Originals productions or other special video projects
  • Cultivate professional relationships with Pasadena area non-profit organizations and businesses
  • Work with leadership team to maintain a comprehensive outreach program
  • Manage company branding initiatives and social media platforms
  • Attend networking events and provide off-site promotional presentations

Member Services

  • Address membership inquiries and evaluate member needs, participation, and retention
  • Supervise the facilitation of community-based studio and field productions
  • Oversee member use of equipment and facilities including reservation procedures
  • Recruit and oversee production support volunteers
  • Administer operating rules and procedures in a professional and timely manner
  • Oversee, schedule and meet regularly with full- and part-time community development staff

Training

  • Provide support and training for producers and staff during production hours
  • Supervise and develop work study and community internship programs
  • Develop, promote, and conduct educational initiatives including media production workshops

Fundraising

  • Research and cultivate relationships with individual, community agency, and corporate donors
  • Oversee development and implementation of fundraising initiatives including grant programs
  • Develop and manage sponsorship and underwriting programs


Preferred Education / Skills / Experience

  • Knowledge of copyright and other media law
  • Community media experience including working with educational and governmental entities
  • Ability to research funding opportunities and support grant writing efforts
  • Highly developed verbal, written communication, and interpersonal communication skills (English)
  • Computer and internet literate at an advanced level
  • Experience as a personnel supervisor and knowledge of California personnel law
  • 4-year degree in communications or related field with an emphasis on non-profit communications and marketing
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Apps, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with people of diverse social, cultural, economic, age, gender, and racial backgrounds
  • 3+ years professional-level business / non-profit communications experience
  • Demonstrated ability to perform multiple projects, with sound judgment, with changing priorities, and be thorough, organized, and attentive to detail
  • Multilingual
  • Convey a warm and professional public manner
  • Experience in all phases of video production including pre- and post-production
  • Basic hardware and software troubleshooting skills
  • Work creatively and flexibly in a team environment, operating autonomously under minimal supervision, while accepting direc­tion, supervision, and guidance when appropriate
  • Exercise good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality of sensitive information


Working Conditions and Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job.


The environment is oriented to public service and subject to constant work interruptions. Employees may work under the stress of continual public and/or inter-departmental contact and pressure to meet timelines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and climb up and down ladders. Vision and hearing must be sufficient to judge the quality of sound and video from A/V monitoring equipment (headphones, speakers, TV monitor screens, etc.). Must possess manual dexterity and coordination required to operate small push buttons and switches associated with electronic devices and switching equipment, as well as power tools. Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, have a safe driving record, and maintain California minimum required automobile insurance. Must be available for work evenings and weekends.
