The

Director, Facilities Services and Operations
Reporting to the Vice President, Workplace Services and Real Estate, this role provides strategic and operational leadership of the Facilities Services (FS) team and responsibilities including managing about 40 staff members and contract services, $3M budget, and $30M office assets and related capital renewal efforts.
The Director will be expected to maintain offices that enable our people to be at their best when working and that support collaboration well. This will be enabled by high performing workplace services, and facility maintenance. In addition, this will be enabled by office designs, furniture and equipment, and environments that support individual productivity, teamwork, and staff interaction.
Specific responsibilities include:
Facilities Services
  • Strategic collaboration with Site Directors for coordinated processes and solutions
  • Develop the customer experience strategy and ensures consistent, high-quality execution across RAND’s U.S. locations with tailored execution for RAND Australia while staying within budget and maximizing cost-effectiveness through the procurement, service process design, and staffing
  • Direct Facilities Management groups at principal RAND locations
  • Support project management
  • Provide overall administrative and functional management of Facilities Services (FS) for the RAND U.S. and Australia locations by managing and directing the design and delivery of highly effective office services and furnishings, enhancing general staff engagement and customer experience in a dynamic, high performance research environment.
Leadership
  • Collaborate with leaders across RAND to maintain a positive, respectful work environment and foster a culture of authenticity, inclusion, and belonging reflecting our great place to work mindset.
  • Lead Workplace Services staff. Provide guidance, performance feedback and development, training, and mentoring and lead efforts to hire new staff to develop a high-performing, diverse team.
  • Continuously improve operations processes to achieve sustained excellence and high customer satisfaction as well as to improve efficiency over time.
  • Develop and manage programs and plans for continuous improvement of environmentally sustainable workplace operations.
  • Provide a supportive office environment for workplace collaboration within research teams and across RAND and for an engaging and welcoming work and graduate school experience.
  • Manage the development, maintenance, and execution of RAND policies and procedures for workplace services.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
  • Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork skills with the ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals including vendors, professional services, employees, and government officials.
  • Strong business and analytical skills required.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.
  • Demonstrated ability to champion diversity, equity and inclusion in its broadest sense including working with people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives across all levels.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic and business plans.
  • A proven track record of successfully managing a broad range of operations, and leading teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in management, engineering, or a related field is required; Master's degree preferred.

Experience
  • Proven related management experience in a non-profit research , professional services firm, or another for-profit entity that has significant government client relationships or a knowledge-oriented workforce.
  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience
Security clearance
Current possession of a U.S. security clearance, or the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance, is required.

Pay Range
$142,000 - $241,300
RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate’s work experience, education/training, skills, expertise; and internal equity. Successful candidates will be offered employment in a specific title, as determined by the candidate's education and experience. The salary range includes base pay plus RAND’s sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken). In addition, RAND provides strong benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid time-off and more.
Location
Santa Monica, CA; Washington, D.C.; or Pittsburgh, PA offices. This role is largely required to work on-site and will have limited opportunity to work from home.
