General Summary of Position
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer of the hospital, the Finance Director, along with a team of direct reports, will oversee and manage all finance and decision support functions for the hospital.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Consistently demonstrates support for compliance in the performance of job duties and responsibilities by (a) developing and maintaining knowledge of, and performing job functions in compliance with, rules, regulations, policies, and statutes that affect his/her job; (b) maintaining knowledge of and performing job functions in compliance with MedStar Health and MSMHC policies and procedures; and (c) reporting compliance concerns in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Interprets current financial trends and respond with appropriate action
- Helps coordinate revenue cycle initiatives
- Performs monthly financial review and analysis of operating results for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, including oversight of the preparation of monthly financial analyses reports and variance analyses.
- Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with team members to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information. Supervises the preparation and maintenance of records, files and other documents. Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes. Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget.
- Provides timely, accurate, and cutting-edge management reporting to senior leadership.
- Provides leadership over the operating and capital budget development process; coordinates data distribution, collection and consolidation. Schedules, organizes, and implements the annual hospital budget process, including the preparation of seminars, guidelines, and worksheets for departments.
- Serves as the liaison with the MedStar Health corporate office on financial topics and issues.
- Develops, implements, and periodically updates a strategic financial plan.
- Directs the preparation of financial projections for new projects, major capital expenditures or proposed changes in operations.
- Ensures credibility of the entity Finance department by providing timely and accurate analysis of financial data, reports, and trends on a routine basis and as requested to management and others.
- Develop and manage key financial performance indicators and works with entity management in improving financial results using such indicators.
- Collaborates with financial executives at corporate headquarters to prepare and update the long-range financial forecast of the hospital and its outpatient centers.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in related field required and
- Master's degree preferred
Experience
- 5-7 years Experience in an operational finance role, preferably in the healthcare industry with supervisory/managerial responsibilities, cost accounting, financial forecasting, and capital and operating budgeting. required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to learn multiple systems for retrieving data to be used in analytics
- Exhibits professionalism, courtesy and excellent customer service, while interacting with patients, guests and co-workers.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and Access
- Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the MedStar's mission, SPIRIT Values and commitment to compliance with all federal, state and regulatory laws. Inspires trust and exhibits honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities.
- Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
