The Position
Community Health Nurses provide professional nursing services requiring licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and/or Registered Nurse in clinics, homes, schools and other community settings.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. This position may provide services on behalf of and at multiple sites statewide to support the Division and Rural Community Health Services. In line with the goals of the grants and to provide access in Nevada's rural communities, Advanced Practice Nurses (APRNs) provide prescriptive authority, training, and direction for all family planning and reproductive health services including screening, testing, and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and communicable diseases; birth control, counseling and prescribing; pregnancy testing and non-directive counseling; health education and training on disease prevention, health promotion, dispense contraceptives and CDC approved STI treatment regimens; conduct epidemiological investigations of clients and contacts; counsel on reduction of risky behaviors; and referral to other medical, social, or community resources.
It is within the APRN scope of practice with proper training to perform specialized procedures including IUD insertion and removal, insertion and removal of hormonal implants, and screening for breast and cervical cancers. Provide outreach, education and training. Develop congenital syphilis protocols. Provide sexually transmitted infection (STI) treatment protocol education, Medicaid covered postpartum contraception, Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) insertion trainings, identification of sex trafficking, Perinatal Hepatitis B outreach, cocooning education and promotion, standard prenatal care workup protocols, and Hepatitis B and catch-up immunizations. Provide various protocol trainings to staff, OB/GYNs, FQHCs, CACs, ERs, Account for Family Planning sites, and community partners. Offer consultation and policy and procedural development and review; surge nursing for emergency preparedness and response to outbreaks. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), including Active Prescribing designation, with certification in Women's Health or Family Practice, OR an APRN, including Active Prescribing designation and one year of experience in a women's health or family practice setting.

Special Requirements
