Job Description
About The Chief Program Officer Role
In this newly created role, the Chief Program Officer (CPO) will work in partnership with a committed team leading the evolution of Hope Community Inc. As a member of Hope Community’s Executive Team and reporting to the Chief of Staff, the CPO will help sustain growth, maintain a high degree of client support, and bring the vision to Hope Community’s long-range and strategic planning. The CPO manages a team of 2, the Director of Programs and the Director of Resident Services.
Amid significant organizational growth, the CPO’s early focus will be on stabilizing programmatic operations by implementing clear policies, procedures, and standards of excellence. Longer term, the Chief Program Officer’s four core goals are
  • Leading external partnerships with fellow community organizations, funders, and public officials, and
  • Developing the right team to accomplish this.
  • Driving fundraising to support our programs,
  • Developing a multi-year vision + improving program operations and management,
Hope Community utilizes a hybrid work environment, with staff in our East Harlem office 3 days per week and remote 2 days per week.
Salary & Benefits: $120,000 to $140,000 Health, dental, and vision benefits among other benefits
Key Responsibilities of the Role
Program Design, Operations & Budgeting
  • Develop necessary internal processes to operate programs efficiently and based on customer feedback.
  • Develop assessments and evaluations of program performance and finances, including through KPIs.
  • Oversee budget development processes, in partnership with CFO and Finance department, to budget and monitor programmatic operations and ensure sound fiscal and system management.
  • Lead multi-year strategic planning to determine programs offered, identify community needs, and develop responsive programmatic offerings. Ensure programs are aligned with organizational goals, risk mitigation for Hope Community and its clients, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Cultivate external relationships with program partners and fellow service organizations.
Fundraising
  • Cultivating relationships with funders and donors.
  • Identifying and executing grant proposals. Ensure compliance with contract standards, licensing requirements, and successful implementation of grant administration procedures.
  • Raise funds for programmatic operations, including from federal, state, and local government, philanthropic funders, and individual donors—in partnership with the Executive Director and Chief of Staff.
Partnerships & External Engagement
  • Represent Hope Community externally at community and government meetings. Attend events to elevate Hope Community’s presence and influence in systemic policy and change efforts.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with funders, community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to support Hope Community’s mission and goals.
People Management & Culture
  • Promote regular and ongoing opportunities for 360-degree feedback on performance and program operations.
  • Create clear, honest, and compassionate team communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture and supporting staff during organizational change cycles.
  • Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performance teams, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, a span of control, and performance.
Organization-Wide
  • Assist in developing organization-wide corporate policy and governance models.
Requirements Qualifications For The Role
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to represent the organization externally across a wide range of stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Passionate about Hope Community’s mission.
  • Strong relationship builder with the ability to find common ground and strengthen collaboration among diverse stakeholders ranging from individuals seeking assistance to community leaders, to organizational partners.
  • Ability to successfully navigate in a fast-paced, mission-oriented, outcomes-driven, and entrepreneurial work environment.
  • At least 10 years of overall experience, with at least 5 in a leadership role.
  • Expertise in performing many (if not all) of the above key responsibilities.
