The City of Provo is seeking a recognized, proven professional in City Management to fill the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). This role will work closely with the City Mayor and Municipal Council and oversee all activities and operations of the City’s Administrative departments.


The Chief Administrative Officer will lead with integrity, communicate effectively, and execute a strategic vision that aligns with Provo City’s Vision. Well-rounded professionals with diverse project and problem-solving experience and a deep understanding of municipal governance are encouraged to apply.

Application Process: Applications for this position must be submitted by midnight on September 1, 2023 and include a single file containing a cover letter, resume, and six professional references. Provo City will screen the applications after the closing date and identify those best qualified to be moved forward to the initial interview. The top applicants will then be selected for a second interview with an executive panel, who will recommend the final candidates to the Mayor. Pay Rate: (M10) $160,000 - $228,992 annually (depending on qualifications)


Selection Of Essential Duties


  • Work closely with the municipality’s senior leadership on a variety of issues.
  • Maintain current knowledge of codes, laws, rules, and regulations at the local, state, and federal level as they apply to the City’s operations.
  • Build partnerships and networks with internal and external stakeholders both within and for the city and community.
  • Respond to requests from the Mayor, Municipal Council, City Departments, public, media, and other groups to share information on the direction of the City.
  • Strategize and implement operational changes for the organization.
  • Lead city administrative departments.


Minimum Requirements


  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master’s degree in public administration, business management, or a related field.
  • Valid, lawful Driver License.
  • Seven (7) years of senior-level local government management experience.
