ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR FACULTY AFFAIRS
California State University, Los Angeles, invites applications for the above Administrator IV position.

The Position: The incumbent reports directly to the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. The AVP serves as a member of the provost’s senior administrative team to provide leadership for initiatives within the Division of Academic Affairs. The incumbent understands the mission of the University and the role the Office of Faculty Affairs plays in furthering that purpose; works with the campus chapter of the California Faculty Association (CFA) to maintain good labor-management relations and lines of communication; oversees the implementation of all faculty personnel processes, policies, and procedures; provides counsel and advice to the provost on all faculty personnel matters; and provides leadership to develop new faculty personnel procedures for the campus; oversees employee relations for faculty employees’ and represented student workers’ status disputes, contract grievances, reprimands, disciplines, negotiations of settlement, and layoffs; ensures compliance with the California Faculty Association collective bargaining agreement; works closely with senior leaders, deans, associate deans, and stakeholders in matters related to faculty personnel, interpreting provisions of the CSU-CFA collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and faculty policies contained in the Faculty Handbook, and other related areas crucial to achieving University goals and objectives; provides oversight over all personnel processes related to faculty and senior academic affairs administrators (instructional and librarian faculty, coaches, academic related counselors, and academic administrators), including, but not limited to, recruitment, appointment/tenure/promotion/range elevation, evaluation of temporary, probationary, and tenured faculty, student course evaluations, and compensation changes, and leave/retirement programs; and works with Director, Faculty Development, and AVP for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, oversees and conducts workshops for faculty unit employees and appropriate administrators on recruitment, the reappointment, tenure, and promotion process, retirement, range elevation, order of assignment in assigning faculty work, sabbatical application processes, department chair leadership, and other personnel processes, as appropriate.
Required Qualifications & Experience: An earned terminal degree from an accredited four-year university or college appropriate to the applicant’s academic field of expertise. Successful university teaching experience and an excellent record of research, scholarship, and creative activities with accomplishments to warrant appointment at the rank of tenured full professor and several years of successful administrative leadership experience at or above the level of department chair or equivalent. Experience working with academic personnel policies, and procedures in a collective bargaining and shared governance environment. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current California State University employees who may apply for the position.

Desired Qualifications: Several years of successful administrative leadership experience at the college and/or university level. Knowledge of the broad spectrum of activities that relate to faculty personnel processes; and Knowledge and experience in the area of faculty development and department chair leadership. Experience in organizing or facilitating faculty development opportunities that address issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Demonstrated ability to successfully recruit and mentor faculty; supervise and manage office personnel successfully; to utilize web-based systems for faculty evaluations and faculty recruitments and appointments; and to provide leadership and to work collaboratively university-wide to support the mission of the University.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $9,167 - $29,425/monthly. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
Appointment: The Administrator IV appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
