Position Summary
We seek a highly motivated Associate Scientist to support the protein engineering group. The successful candidate will contribute to development and engineering of activatable protein therapeutics spanning different modalities including cytokines, antibodies and bispecific molecules. The candidate will work on in vitro selections (phage and bacterial display library enrichment), DNA construct design and cloning, and protein binding studies.
Professional Responsibilities
- Work with project teams (internal and partnered) to design, clone, and optimize activatable protein-therapeutics.
- Use binding assays, such as ELISAs or Biolayer Interferometry to characterize activatable protein-therapeutics.
- Work with project teams (internal and partnered) to design and execute selection campaigns using phage- and bacterial-display libraries and analyze sequence data to identify scFv’s and peptides that specifically bind ‘bait’ proteins, including antibodies and cytokines.
- Prepare, analyze, and present data internally and externally.
- Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team to drive technological innovations related to library-screening and activatable therapeutics.
Minimum Qualifications
- MS in Biochemistry with 4+ years of experience in the biotechnology or biopharma industry OR BS in Biochemistry with 6+ years of experience in the biotechnology or biopharma industry
- Hands-on experience with in vitro selection campaigns using phage-display libraries with solution-phase and immobilized ‘bait’ proteins.
- Must have experience with ELISAs using phage-preparations.
- Must have experience with phage-library design, preparation, and routine phage techniques (including titration, amplification, microbiological sterile technique).
- Hands-on experience with routine molecular biology and cloning techniques (like DNA construct design, PCR, and ligation/recombinase-based cloning, sequence analysis and alignment).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Kingfisher automation and next-generation sequencing sample preparation (NGS) for library enrichment and screening.
- Computer programming skills (e.g. Python, R, etc)
- Experience with cytokines and antibodies and their application in cancer.

- Experience with high throughput techniques applied to phage- and bacterial-library screening.
Salary and Benefits
- The expected salary range for this role based on the primary location for this position in California is $112,000 - $125,000 per year. Offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
