About You

You are an experienced marine scientist/oceanographer who enjoys working on marine and coastal environmental monitoring programs. A lifelong learner, you want to continue growing intellectually and professionally. Collaborating with colleagues with diverse expertise is exciting for you, and you are also comfortable working independently. You have experience in the project lifecycle of environmental consulting and are effective in conveying complex information to colleagues and clients both orally and in written form. You have begun to develop a network of professional contacts, which you are excited to expand upon. You enjoy fieldwork and are willing to conduct seasonal, extended offshore sampling surveys. Environmental ethics is amongst your strongest principles, and you are committed to helping address global climate change by supporting the environmentally sound development of offshore renewable energy.

About Integral

Integral Consulting Inc. is a science and engineering firm delivering sound technical solutions to meet today's challenges in the health, environmental, and natural resource arenas. We are a values-driven collaborative team that is as passionate about company culture as we are about the work we do for our clients. Since our founding 20 years ago, we have operated with a demonstrated commitment to the well-being, diversity, and professional development of our staff and an equal commitment to strong partnerships with our clients and teaming partners. We are a company where people come to solve today’s toughest environmental challenges through innovative ideas, exceptional teamwork, and dedication to accuracy and technical quality.

About The Job

We are currently seeking a scientist or project scientist for our Marine, Coastal, Climate, and Technology business area with an emphasis on supporting the development of offshore renewable energy. The position will support multiple clients and projects in the area of baseline and long-term environmental monitoring and, potentially, permitting of offshore wind projects along all coasts of the United States.

Day-to-day project work will vary depending on the candidate’s technical areas of expertise and experience and may include sampling plan preparation, literature review, fieldwork/sample collection, data management and evaluation, technical reporting, and project management. This position may offer in-office, hybrid, or remote opportunities based on the candidate’s location and the needs of the organization.

Responsibilities

As a marine scientist/oceanographer, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:

  • Implementing and documenting environmental studies associated with offshore renewable energy development and aquatic environmental assessments, possibly including sediment investigation and remediation project work
  • Conducting data synthesis, analysis, and interpretation, and potentially geospatial analysis, and empirical and numerical modeling to identify and quantify variability, trends, and gradients in habitat quality and types
  • Planning and assisting with the delivery of scientifically sound field expeditions and surveys, contributing to the development of health and safety plans and quality assurance project plans, and assisting with logistical planning and equipment readiness/maintenance tasks
  • Preparing project deliverables and technical reports
  • Participating in and leading multidisciplinary field surveys involving underwater acoustic and photographic mapping techniques and water column and sediment sampling methods

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a degree in oceanography, marine sciences, or a closely related field. Demonstrated knowledge of oceanographic and/or sediment physical, geochemical, ecological processes as well as basic photographic/imaging technology is a plus. A valid passport, driver’s license, and ability to obtain and hold offshore medical and safety training certificates are required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Familiarity with computer learning and artificial intelligence methods
  • Marine environmental habitat mapping/monitoring, fisheries habitat mapping/assessments, and/or sediment quality assessment experience
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with field measurements, instrumentation, and remote sensing
  • Excellent client interaction and communication skills
  • 3 to 5+ years of professional experience in physical, geological, or biological marine science
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers
  • Strong organizational abilities
  • Knowledge of and experience with science and data requirements for offshore wind projects, including full project site characterization, permitting, operations, and long-term monitoring efforts

Annual Salary Range: $70,000 - $100,000

An employee’s total compensation package includes annual salary, company-subsidized (employee and family) medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) participation with a company match of 1% to 4% of annual compensation, company-paid life and short- and long-term disability, paid sick leave (80 hours per year), paid vacation (12 or/to 15 days; determined by title at hire), paid holidays (9 days per year), and the potential for an annual discretionary bonus based on company performance. Paid time off will be prorated to reflect part-time scheduled hours, if applicable.
