Our location in Columbus, OH, currently has an opportunity for an Associate Food Scientist. In Research & Development (R&D) our ambition is providing innovative high-quality products, creating sustainable value, delivering superior user experience and enhancing health outcomes at all stages of life
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Interact with cross-functional teams, including Supply chain, Process Technology, Analytical, Regulatory, QA, Purchasing, Sensory and Marketing or Sales to ensure products and prototypes meet benchmarks and project criteria.
- Interact with suppliers, trade organizations, and research organizations seeking new innovative solutions and technologies to address complex formulation challenges
- Prepare research batches in the pilot plant or on benchtop in a lab. Perform batch calculations, prepare weigh sheets and manufacturing instructions. Coordinate testing. Monitor, organize, and interpret results. Draw conclusions from the analytical results and reformulate or suggest direction for and implement improvements to formulations. Recognize problems and initiate corrective actions. Communicate technical results to project teams. Author summary reports on technical findings.
- Conceive, plan, design, and conduct independent research on ingredients, formulations and processes related to the development of nutritional products. Apply advanced scientific knowledge of chemistry, microbiology and engineering to projects. Follow direction provided by project goals and experimental design.
- Identify new ingredients and technologies that provide innovative solutions to product development challenges in complex matrices. Evaluating alternate protein sources from plant-based ingredients and real food ingredients in clean label beverages.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING
Required
- B.S. or M.S. in Food Science, biological or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Biochemistry, with preferably one-year relevant industry experience.
Qualifications
- Ability to generate and translate innovative concepts into technically feasible and consumer-relevant prototypes and products.
- Curiosity, team player, with high energy and desire to achieve results are essential to be successful.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding background in Science and Math. Emphasis on food chemistry, microbiology, engineering, food manufacturing/processing technology, product development and ingredient interactions would be desired.
