The ATDM Welding Instructor will require a driven individual to teach in an accelerated, short-term training program. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, developing curriculum, delivering instruction and advising students. Instruction topics will include general instruction of welding processes, safety best practices, application, and hands-on training. Some travel may be required. Evening classes, weekend classes, and/or classroom instruction at off-campus centers may be required.
The Welding Instructor can expect to facilitate classes on second-shift or third-shift hours. Your salary will include a shift differential based on the class times you are assigned to instruct.
- Competency in blueprint interpretation and fabrication.
- Ability to manage a budget.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and order supplies and equipment using proper state procurement procedures.
- Competency in technical math and applications in the welding industry.
- High school diploma or GED and significant occupational experience in welding.
- Experience with various welding applications and materials such as SMAW, GMAW, GTAW.
Other Preferred Experience:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse student populations.
- Evidence of successful work experience as a team member.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a widely diverse faculty, staff and student population.
- Knowledge in the development of G-Code and utilization of post processing methodologies
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering standards, material specifications, and participation in industry consortium’s
- Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue future technological developments.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum and course design and development.
- Committed to quality instruction, scholarship, and academic integrity.
- Competency in blueprint interpretation and GD&T
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience or proficiency in the following: Certified American Welding Society Instructor (AWS) with five years of experience in teaching and industry training.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching; ability to lift 50 lbs.

Why is the position open?
Because of the growth of our campus through success in our many programs, we’re adding more instructors to our team. Due to the success of our Manufacturing Advancement team in executing the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Program in partnership with the Department of the Navy, this is a new position that is funded by a federal contract. The position is funded through June 2025. IALR will continue to request funding beyond 2025.
