Position Summary


We are searching for an Associate Director to join the Integrated Scientific Operations (ISO) team in Bristol Myers Squibb’s Research organization. As a Strategy and Operations Program Manager (SOPM), the Associate Director would provide program management support for key strategic initiatives being implemented in the Research organization to enable their effective & efficient execution.


Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitates mechanistic modeling leadership meetings (e.g., prepare agenda, organize progress updates from meeting membership, document key decisions, flag key upcoming milestones, and share debrief of meeting takeaways)
  • Facilitates leadership meetings, including preparing agenda, organizing progress updates from initiative owners, documenting key decisions, and preparing debriefs of meeting takeaways
  • Assists strategic initiatives that leverage machine learning to accelerate lead identification and optimization in drug discovery
  • Monitors and reports on the performance of key strategic initiatives, as outlined above
  • Facilitates extended advisory meetings to discuss interdependencies with development and commercialization, including collecting topics and preparing materials, organizing pre-alignment meetings, and coordinating follow-up discussions, as needed
  • Works with initiative owners to collect information on defined milestones and provides updates in enterprise project management tool and status dashboards. Conduct deep dives on select metrics for risk management and leadership reporting
  • Works with mechanistic modeling Community of Practice to facilitate SteerCo meetings and related actions (e.g., support planning for upcoming meetings, flag key upcoming milestones, share debrief of meeting takeaways, set up platform for document sharing); coordinates quarterly general body meetings for the greater Mechanist Modeling community
  • Facilitates core advisory forum meetings, including obtaining pre-alignment with advisory forum’s co-chairs and project teams; other responsibilities include facilitating meeting management and sharing debriefs/takeaways with participants and project teams afterward
  • Facilitates expansion of mechanistic modeling in both pre-clinical and clinical programs
  • Coordinates with functional stakeholders and initiative owners to collect information on Research-level KPIs, and provides updates in KPI dashboard for periodic leadership reporting within Research and at the enterprise level
  • Supports a scientific advisory forum to guide project teams utilizing predictive disease biology & target identification and disease perturbation platforms. Ensures close cross-functional collaboration (e.g., between translational researchers, biologists, and computational scientists)
  • Works with a cross-functional steering committee to guide above-asset machine-learning teams (e.g., facilitate exercises to define and setup prioritized use cases and objectives, organize progress readouts from use case teams, facilitate key decision-making processes at Steerco, support communications)


Qualifications & Experience


  • 5+ years pharmaceutical, or related, industry experience in a variety of operational/scientific roles in a highly matrixed environment
  • Strong communicator experienced with influencing and interacting at all levels including with senior scientific, operational, or external thought leaders to drive connectivity and efficiency of collaborative research
  • Works with a sense of urgency and experience managing multiple projects, building structure from ambiguity, and helping teams to develop priorities
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in a scientific discipline; MBA or equivalent project management experience preferred
  • Skilled listener with ability to manage complex internal – up, across, and down the hierarchy - relationships through constructive conflict management
  • Experience in facilitating complex projects comprised of virtual team members of diverse styles, driving to successful outcomes with and without direct management responsibilities
  • Experience with various project management tools preferred (i.e., Smartsheet, SharePoint Microsoft Project, Office Timeline Pro)


The starting compensation for this job is a range from $141,000 - $178,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).


The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.


Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
