Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the Warden,

• Other duties as required.
• Supervises security, custody, and control of inmates, counseling them as necessary.
• Writes policies and procedures for a level ii institution.
• This includes directors at SCDC headquarters.
• Supervises the implementation and executing of laws, policies, rules, and regulations, as well as operating procedures including OSHA regulations.
• Serves as duty warden and in the capacity of the warden during his/her absence.
• Prepares (writes) various reports, special studies, and staff papers, including recommendations relating to proposed changes in policies, operating procedures, rules, regulations, and laws.
• The incumbent will assist in the daily planning and coordination of the institutional operations including security, administration, and support for the institution.
• Supervises maintaining the sanitation of the institution, buildings, property etc.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks SCDC Basic Training upon hire

Minimum And Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-to-year basis. (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
SCDC Minimum Requirements

• A bachelor's degree and four (4) years of responsible administrative/management experience in a correctional environment.

OR

• An associate degree and six (6) years of responsible administrative/management experience in a correctional environment.

OR

• A high school diploma and eight (8) years of responsible administrative/management experience in a correctional environment, to include two (2) years correctional supervisory experience.

Must be certified, or obtain certification within six (6) months of entry into the position, and must then maintain his/her certification while in the position.
