Assistant Editor, Manga (Open To Remote)

Employer is seeking an assistant editor to oversee manga titles on behalf of our client, Kodansha Comics. Responsibilities

• Develop proposals for successful print manga, including licenses, formats, and cover designs
• Identify target consumers and write cover copy for new acquisitions
• Review printer proofs of covers and interiors
• Work closely with the managing editorial team to meet deadlines
• Collaborate with translators and designers to ensure high-quality English-language manga localizations

Requirements

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Passion for Japanese comics
• Organizational skills and willingness to learn about the manga publishing industry
• Demonstrated ability in English writing and editing through work samples
• Strong writing skills to create localizations that replicate the Japanese reading experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
• Proficiency in written Japanese to evaluate potential titles and correct translation errors

Salary: $53,000
