The Assistant Director of International Admissions is an integral member of the Syracuse University international admissions team, supporting all aspects of the enrollment cycle including: recruiting prospective students at in-person events throughout China, evaluating student applicants, implementing yield events and supporting students as they matriculate to Syracuse University. Reporting to the Director of International Admissions, the Assistant Director will be the ambassador for Syracuse University with prospective students, applicants, and their families, and schools/school counselors; responding to inquiries and providing guidance as appropriate.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Master’s degree preferred;
  • Experience with U.S. higher education institutions.

Job Specific Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong English communications skills;
  • Native Mandarin speaker with excellent speaking, writing, and presentation skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Strong Microsoft Office suite skills and experience with Slate preferred;
  • Availability on evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of U.S. higher education and Chinese secondary and higher education systems;
  • Excellent organizational, relationship building, and client service skills;
  • Extensive travel within China, East Asia, and occasionally to Syracuse is expected;

Responsibilities
Outreach and Recruitment:
  • Coordinate and implement off-campus prospective student events in China;
  • Serve as an ambassador in China for Syracuse University;
  • Represent Syracuse University within the region at college fairs, conferences, exhibits, and workshops;
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with key regional stakeholders, including key high schools, alumni and parent networks, and education offices
  • Conduct in-person and virtual information sessions, participate in and conduct admissions workshops, and high school visits, meeting with prospective students and their parents/guardians;
  • Recruit students from China, focusing on students who attend Chinese national public high schools, international divisions within Chinese national public high schools, and international high schools;
  • Travel throughout Mainland China;
Evaluation and Selection:
  • Coordinate and implement all pre-departure events held in Mainland China
  • Conduct in-person and virtual student interviews;
  • Provide guidance to the International Admissions team on grading scales, school profiles, and trends noted within key areas;
  • Coordinate and implement all yield events held in Mainland China and support other Syracuse University yield initiatives;
  • Review applications from Mainland China, including evaluation and rendering decisions;
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Liaise with the Center for International Services in support of outreach and onboarding initiatives specific to the region;
  • Support all Office of Admissions customer service initiatives including phone, email, and in-person communications;
  • Support ongoing marketing and communications initiatives in China;
  • Coordinate with International Admissions representatives visiting the region, providing guidance and support as assigned;
  • Additional assignments as required.
  • Liaise with Alumni and Parent Relations to support initiatives and activities in China and the region as assigned;
