Job Title
International Admissions Coordinator

Position Summary
The International Admissions Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment of undergraduate and graduate international students, providing them with timely responses and excellent customer service, and assisting with admissions application review, processing, and procedures. This position also develops international marketing plans and associated materials, prepares for university participation in educational fairs, and develops relationships with high schools and high school counselors/advisors, community colleges, and international universities. The position will also build and maintain relationships with international student recruitment agents, international partners, and organizations that help attract international students to the university. This position also works closely with prospective new students to support their transition to Texas Wesleyan University. International travel may be required.
Serves as a DSO (Designated School Official) responsible for full compliance with all aspects of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) including the tracking and maintaining of student records within SEVIS requiring specialized knowledge for the understanding and application of federal regulations and academic policies and procedures. Keeps international students and the institution in good standing with the United States Government. Manages immigration casework portfolio, and advises international students, staff, faculty, and program participants on program content, policies, procedures, and activities while interpreting and applying rules and regulations specific to the program’s operation. Advises international students on employment, health insurance, academics, and SEVIS status. Issues I-20 forms of eligibility for the F1 Student Visa for students who have completed the international student admissions process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinates admissions recruitment and counseling for international undergraduate and graduate students through the application and enrollment process.
  • Review, process, and evaluate applications and transcripts for admission and academic scholarship recommendations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
  • Serve on University committees (International Education Committee and others, as assigned).
  • Maintain active membership in appropriate professional organizations (NAFSA) and participate in professional development.
  • Develop, plan, and maintain an interactive communication strategy, including social media, for international recruiting.
  • Evaluates transcripts and international records for eligibility.
  • Manage the reporting and documentation process of issuing visas as required by the United States Department of Homeland Security. Serve as Designated School Official for the Student and Exchange Visitors Information Program (SEVP).
  • Develop and implement an international student recruitment plan, which includes maintaining and establishing relationships with agents to grow the international applicant pool.
  • Provide weekly, monthly, and year-end reports.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or LPR to serve as a USDHS Principal Designated School Official.


Experience
  • Previous international admissions and/or recruitment-related experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in higher education.
  • A minimum of one-year experience in working with the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

  • Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills.
  • F-1 regulations (8 CFR § 214.2 & 214.3), including USDHS practice guidance and NAFSA-published best practices.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate a cooperative attitude while working with a diverse student population.
  • Knowledge of student development theory.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to write standard correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to current and prospective students and University employees.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
