Position Overview:

We are seeking a Portfolio Analyst to join the Masterworks Research team. A successful candidate will have exceptional analytical and research skills, as well as experience working in the art market. The candidate should be passionate about research, analytics, organization, and process management. The ideal candidate has excellent proficiency in Google Sheets and a deep understanding and interest in the contemporary art market.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals who thrive in a dynamic, team-based environment with the ability to work both independently as well as across departments. The role would be a member of the Research team and work closely with members of that team, as well as members of our Acquisitions and Private Sales teams. This role reports directly to the Head of Research.

Responsibilities Overview:

• Ensuring the existing rating is clear to key stakeholders in the company
• Prepare quarterly investment memos for artists being evaluated
• Assist in generating buy/sell/hold ratings on artists’ markets by synthesizing data and qualitative information via our in-market specialists

Requirements and Preferred Experience:

• SQL and/or Python (Huge Plus)
• Clickup, Monday, Asana, Airtable, or similar
• Ability to analyze data and channel it through concise and compelling frameworks
• Google Sheets / Excel
• 2-3+ years of experience in the art market
• Extensive knowledge of the secondary art market for Post War & Contemporary Art
• Experience with Process management
• Analytical Skillset
• Experience at a major auction house, appraisal firm, or advisory group is strongly preferred

Measurements of Success in the First 90 Days:

• Establish framework and systems for monitoring artists for inclusion/exclusion in the Masterworks portfolio
• Structuring and coordinating cross-departmental feedback for artist selection
• Contribute to further operationalizing masterworks artist selection and review process via
• Refining and populating investment memo templates

Additional Requirements:

• Must be eligible to work in the US - no exceptions.
• Must be able to work in the office in NYC.

How does Masterworks think about compensation?

The compensation range for the role is $75-90k (inclusive only of base salary, and exclusive of other potential competitive benefits such as on-target commission, bonus payments, and equity). Our ranges are very broad to accommodate all types of candidates and encourage growth. Specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on factors such as education, experience, qualifications, and alignment with market data. Exceptional candidates may receive salaries outside of the posted ranges.
