Program History
Collectively, Advocate Health and its delivery care brands, Aurora Health Care, Advocate Health Care, Atrium Health and Atrium Wake Forest Baptist have participated in offering administrative fellowships for over 40 years. The Advocate Health Administrative Fellowship is focused on health system operations. Anchored with executive leadership and exposure to large-scale market operations, the program provides a robust experience of challenging work in critical areas across Advocate Health that will support growth and development of the fellows as they begin a career in healthcare leadership and administration.
Major Responsibilities:
Manages diverse portfolio of healthcare projects and is expected to make meaningful contributions to the progress and work product of these initiatives and meet project sponsor’s needs. Becomes part of the work unit team to carry out assigned work within the rotation. Identifies and uses internal and external support resources to accomplish work goals. Offers information and perspectives regarding current trends and issues to stimulate new ideas and thinking.
Builds a broad range of healthcare management skills. Works effectively with physicians, administrative colleagues and allied health staff to promote the team concept of medicine at Aurora. Directs or leads the work of others in a work group or task force. Contributes to committee work that is related to rotation assignment.
Describes and integrates the functions and relationships of the following in support of Aurora's vision: practice, education and research; inpatient and outpatient settings; physicians, administrators and other allied health staff; hiring, training, retaining and terminating employees; costs, charges, revenue, providers and payors.
Seeks ways to continuously improve processes and outcomes and provide exceptional patient care. Studies and applies improvement methodologies including data collection and analysis, group facilitation and implementation strategies.
Meets with the leadership on a regular basis to discuss fellowship and to report on progress of current projects.
Participates in the systems strategic planning process.
Assists in development of other programs and services as assigned.

The Advocate Health Administrative Fellowship Program is a structured framework that allows for flexibility based on a fellow’s interest. Key objectives are to match project-based work that advances our mission and vision with the fellow's interests to provide for a mutually beneficial relationship.
These qualities include but are not limited to:
Strong commitment from executive leadership and paired preceptor(s) assigned to each fellow
Lead a large regional project that advances enterprise strategy and/or improves health system operations
Availability of additional enterprise and local project opportunities to advance growth and development
Provide experiential learning opportunities that will contribute to professional growth and organization performance
Regular meetings with operational and clinical executive leadership
Formal learning and development workshops and classes
Attending executive leadership meetings
Making formal presentations
Networking with enterprise executives
Attending external conferences
Strong desire to retain former fellows for full-time employment post program
Networking
Current and former fellows are invited to attend a variety of formal and informal networking activities throughout the year
Midwest Fellowship Locations
Four Midwest-based administrative fellowships, focused on operations, spread among locations in Illinois and Wisconsin are being offered for the 2024-25 fellowship year.
There will also be one enterprise-wide, Population Health focused fellowship anchored in the Midwest.
**Applicants are asked to rank their location preferences and are interviewed accordingly.

Lassiter Fellow (Midwest Only)
The Lassiter Fellowship has the same recruitment process, programmatic learning and is reserved for an aspiring candidate who is a person of color.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
None Required.
Education Required:
Master's Degree in Health Care Administration, or
Master's Degree in Business, or
Master's Public Health degree
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Must be a graduate from a program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) or Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AASCB).
Must possess skills, aptitude and interest in attaining executive level within the health care field.
