Job Description

Assurant has an exciting remote opportunity for an Accounts Payable Manager!

The position is primarily responsible for the month-end closing of the Accounts Payable group information, oversees and streamlines accounts payables processes. Responsible for the development and maintenance of an effective and efficient workflow of accounting transactions in compliance with GAAP and Corporate financial policies. Detect errors in Accounts Payables processes, work with the purchasing department to clear any price variances and make appropriate corrections and support other departments. and lead the offshore AP team. Ability to prioritize, plan, lead and develop the AP department. Deliver efficient, accurate, timely and high-quality submission of internal and external reporting outputs. The holder will use their knowledge of accounting system to support AP and accounting transformation and other improvement initiatives.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Key point of contact for any AP activities within the group
  • Engage employees by demonstrating company values and behaviours and ensuring relevant key business messages are cascaded
  • Monitor and control RMA’s including Apple’s Buyback Program
  • Enforce that financial controls are maintained within the department
  • Implement and enforce policies and procedures
  • Record Month end GLIM entries as assigned
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the financial transactions associated with Accounts Payable
  • Ad hoc project work
  • Safeguard the assets of the company
  • Monitor the day-to-day general ledger, accounts payable and intercompany transactions
  • Assist and support audit teams in verifying payments and accounting data
  • Perform accounting considerations for new business opportunities and implement adequate control to meet vendor’s requirements
  • Maintain complete accurate balance sheet reconciliations including Blacklines
  • Develop, mentor and coach direct reports
  • Run the AP aging report and analyze its data and provide an executive summary report on monthly basis
  • Manage prepayments and ensure this balance is fully reconciled

Responsibility for the work of others

  • 2+ direct reports (Lead AP onshore, AP Manager offshore & offshore AP associates)

What are the requirements needed for this position?

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of managing teams
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Accounts Payable including recording accounting transactions and understanding/interpret trial balance information
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a distribution, logistics, or manufacturing environment

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Support Finance transformation activities, identifying areas of improvement and engaging to improve processes
  • Effective liaison with internal and external audit
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong management skills and a desire to develop people
  • Ability to manage numerous deadlines and prioritize workload to achieve required deadlines
  • Comfortable dealing with senior stakeholders including directors
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel
  • “Can do” attitude and strong communication skills

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Knowledge of insurance accounting principles
  • Experience managing people in a changing environment.
  • Experience of data manipulation/reconciliation
  • Comfortable dealing with senior stakeholders including directors
  • US GAAP knowledge
  • Knowledge of Blackline
  • Experience in coordinating statutory audit processes
  • Experience with dimensional accounting software packages
