Academic Case Manager Jobs

The purpose of the Academic Advising Center within the University College is to support students who are exploring majors or transitioning between majors. Academic Advisors are responsible for assisting students in academic exploration, registration, navigating academic policies, and providing connections to on campus resources. Using a developmental advising model, Academic Advisors support the development of knowledge, skills, and personal accountability needed to explore academic and co-curricular options.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director for Academic Advising, this position delivers holistic, inclusive, developmental, and student-centered academic advising to undergraduate students in the University College. The Academic Advisor plays a critical role in the educational journey of the undeclared student by supporting them with identifying interests, abilities, academic goals, and important decisions regarding their academic career.
The Academic Case Manager in the University Advising Center is responsible for supporting students who are experiencing academic challenges that are impacting the student’s success at UNC Charlotte. Specifically, this position will serve as a key resource for students at the intersection of academic warning and those who receive academic alerts in the fall and spring term. This position will liaise with multiple offices, including the Office of Disability Services and the University Center for Academic Excellence to ensure that students receive needed accommodations.

The essential job responsibilities of the Academic Case Manager are support undeclared and transitioning student identify their academic strengths, establish plans of study based upon degree requirements and the student’s academic and career goals, andprovide outreach and intensive advising to students who are identified as needed additional support resources. The Academic Case Manager provides regular monitoring of services and follow-ups with students on a regular basis. These services are geared toward improving a student’s well-being and educational outcomes. This includes monitoring student academic performance and attendance, raising the expectations for students in setting educational/career goals, referring students to on-campus resources for further assistance, improving student engagement in curricular and co-curricular activities, reducing the incidence of at-risk behavior and developing conflict resolution skills.
Advisors are responsible for maintaining detailed student records; participating in recruitment and retention initiatives; first-year and transfer orientations; departmental and committee meetings; development of relationships with campus partners; and instruction of one section of the First Year Seminar course.
