Responds to requests for information; provides information to other recreation program managers and organizations; researches recreation issues, and recommends solutions.

Applicants must have experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

A Ph.D. or extensive professional experience is required for teaching upper-division core courses (300- or 400-level).

For international transcripts, a United States Equivalency certification will be required.

A Bachelor’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.

A Master’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.

Develop and plan activity programs to allow participation by residents within their capabilities.

Work with the interdisciplinary team to schedule activities and meet survey requirements.

Working and caring for living specimens in accordance to licensing requirements. Animals include mammals (large and small), insects, reptiles, and arachnids.

Conducts interpreted natural history tours of the Nature Center and Trail systems along with birthday parties.

Teaches natural history, life sciences, and ecology programs as they pertain to the Nature Center.

Assists in program development, set up, tear down, and operation of birthday parties and assist with special events.

Supervises volunteers as required, guiding them to ensure compliance of standards.

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, written correspondence, and communication skills

Must be assertive and have decision making capabilities.

Exceptional Customer Service Skills and Practices

Sells Community Center memberships and programs. This includes handling credit card transactions, receiving cash, and counting correct change.

Provides tours of the Community Center.

Checks out gym and game equipment to guests.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:

Must have supervisory recreation therapist experience.

Initiates improvement methods to increase quality of work productivity; develops performance standards for the section.

Bachelors Degree in Recreation Management, Public Administration or equivalent is required.

Manages assigned budget and special projects.

Five (5) years' experience operating recreation facilities and/or administering athletic, aquatic or youth programming is required.

Coordinates and conducts special projects and related duties as assigned.

Leads and demonstrates high quality customer service and assist with other parks and recreation programs as needed.

Trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.

Attends in-service trainings and maintains required certifications.

No previous work experience required.

Customer service and cash handling experience preferred.

Must hold a Shallow Water Lifeguard Certification or obtain the certification within 30 days of hire

Dir Parks Rec Community Engagement 4-2023

Management Time Off: 40 hours per year.

Vision Insurance: The City offers vision care plans for employees. Enrollment is optional and premium is paid by employee.

Vehicle Allowance: $525 or $475 per month with City Manager (or City Council, as applicable) authorization

Vacation Leave: Accrual rate of 120 to 200 hours per year based on years of service.

Combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or a related field

Five years of experience in parks and recreation operations

Three years of supervisory experience

CPRP or CPRE certification or ability to obtain within (1) one year of employment

Analyzes and evaluates operational data including financial reports

Directs activities through various Division Directors

Knowledge of basic accounting as it relates to program budgeting.

Knowledge of personal computers and how to use various programs including Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and various computer programs for Department.

Knowledge of volunteer development services.

Bi-lingual skills including English preferred.

Hold or obtain First Aid/CPR certifications at hire or within (4) months.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Five (5) years' experience directing a Parks and Recreation department, or equivalent municipal management experience, is required.

Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of office management, work organization, and supervision.
