Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of at-risk and detained youth? We have a career opportunity for you. The Loudoun County Juvenile Court Service Unit is seeking qualified candidates for Youth Services Specialist I positions serving the Youth Services Center located in Leesburg, VA.

This is a new facility, opening in Spring 2023, which will include a secure Juvenile Detention Center and a less secure Youth Shelter for court-involved youth. Youth Services Specialists are responsible for the welfare, safety, and security of the youth at the facility.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the planning and implementation of new programming in a brand-new facility. In addition to this position the Juvenile Court Service Unit is looking for candidates to fill a variety of positions. Please visit www.loudoun.gov for more job opportunities.

Typical Youth Services Specialist I core responsibilities include:

  • Additional activities may be assigned as needed.
  • Conduct inspections, security checks and searches.
  • Complete reports and daily logs.
  • Counsel, discipline and physically restrain youth as needed.
  • Transport youth.
  • Supervise youth in all daily activities, such as: recreational, educational, hygiene, meals, visitation, life skills and spiritual services
  • Operate control room.
  • May be requested to provide support to other programs within Department.
  • Manage youths' behavior by the least restrictive means, utilizing coaching and conflict resolution skills to teach and promote pro-social behavior among the youth.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Job Requirements

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a associate's degree or equivalent and two (2) years professional experience in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.

Special Requirements

  • Position is considered essential and requires reporting to work in inclement weather or other states of emergency and or as required by Director.
  • Must be able to work all shifts as assigned, rotating schedules that includes days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. This position is required to work on either a 12-hour day or night shift.
  • Must be able to successfully complete First Aid, CPR for adults and Handle with Care (physical intervention) within 90 days of hire. Must update certifications as needed.
  • May be at risk of exposure to various forms of communicable disease.
  • Must have the ability to use automated technology and be able to operate keyboard driven equipment.
  • Requires occasional stooping, bending, and /or light lifting.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

Employment is contingent on the satisfactory results of a physical exam, drug screening, TB test, Department of Motor Vehicle record check, criminal background checks and fingerprinting, to include Child Protective Services, as required by federal and state standards applicable to the facility.
