Job Description

As the principal aide to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) the VP, Chief of Staff, Operations leads and manages a wide range of functions on behalf of the COO. This is a critical member of the senior operations team, providing coordination and oversight across operations division leaders, supporting COO-led strategic initiatives, and serving as the COO’s liaison with other internal colleagues and external constituents to ensure the effectiveness of the COO and the entire operations division.


  • Participates with the COO and other senior executives in institutional planning, policy development and execution, as well as problem resolution, charting a course of collaboration and consensus among senior executives and their direct reports.
  • Manages key Operations meetings and processes, which frequently involve senior executives from across the company, including the Operating Committee, COO leadership meeting, Segment Lead meetings and others.
  • Coordinates special projects on behalf of the COO, frequently involving senior executives across the company.
  • Serves as executive responsible for facilitating transformation of business from executing within functionally aligned departments to an organization executing in a holistic cross-functional manner. Ensuring alignment between key business functions and enterprise technology.
  • Interacts with senior executives, external executives and stakeholders, and community officials and stakeholders in the representation and implementation of BCBSMA business and initiatives. Prepares and/or contributes to the preparation of correspondence, reports, briefings, and presentations.
  • Provides analysis and strategic consultation to the COO and operations division leaders on major issues affecting the organization.
  • Serves as principal aide to the COO; supports the COO in managing diverse internal and external issues and directly handling matters of organizational importance on behalf of the COO, as appropriate.
  • Serves as a primary strategic liaison for the COO with operations division leaders, senior executives across the company, and the community at large; coordinates communication as needed between the COO and other senior executives of the organization.


Qualifications

  • Knowledge of health care industry and external environment
  • Ability to balance tactical perspective with the ability to manage strategic direction
  • Strategic vision, diplomacy, and political sense
  • Strong aptitude for relationship management across all levels of the organization; high degree of organizational astuteness and leadership skills
  • Effective consensus building, negotiation skills with an ability to influence negotiation relationships with business partners
  • 10 - 15 years of health care business administrative/management skills with a BA/BS degree required, advanced degree strongly preferred. Seasoned professional with extensive general management experience
  • Experience in project management and the implementation of major initiatives
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical and research skills; ability to think at a micro and macro level
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; a strong sense of collaboration, facilitation, and teamwork
  • Demonstrated track record in team building and motivation, effective cross-functional management and alliance building
  • High degree of initiative; ability to work both independently and within a team

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.


This job is also eligible for variable pay.
