Job Description

At Unreasonable, we build community between entrepreneurs, institutions, and investors to profitably solve pressing global problems. We believe entrepreneurial-led businesses building rapidly scalable solutions are one of the greatest untapped resources for solving the significant social and environmental challenges of our time. Every day, our team strives to give the entrepreneurs we support the resources, relationships, capital and connections to help scale their impact. We do this by connecting them with our global community of mentors, investors, business leaders, and policymakers . Today, the over 370 CEO’s in the Unreasonable Fellowship across 50+ countries have raised more than $14B in financing, generated more than $10B in revenue, and are measurably impacting the lives of more than 720 million individuals in nearly every country and territory worldwide. But we’re just getting started.

Core to our work is delivering and hosting world class events and programs such as Unreasonable Impact in partnership with Barclays, Unreasonable CHANGE in partnership with Accenture, Unreasonable GOALS in partnership with the State Department, Unreasonable FOOD in partnership with Mars Wrigley, and more. For these intensive programs, we bring together a hand-picked portfolio of the best positioned entrepreneurs and innovative solutions in the world to solve an identified global challenge and a select group of targeted mentors and investors. The job of these programs is to drive huge resources into the most effective growth-stage entrepreneurial solutions around the world. In the process, these programs become R&D engines for the multinationals and governments we partner with. To get a feel for what this looks like, check out our Unreasonable Impact in 60 Seconds video.

We are now seeking a Venture Selection Analyst Intern who will report to the Venture Selection Sr. Manager, working collaboratively to curate a Portfolio of incredibly impactful and scalable ventures from around the globe. The Intern will research the world’s best impact-focused, for-profit ventures, maintain and grow our proprietary database of ventures (Venture Selection Database), and assist the team with recruiting ventures into the Unreasonable Fellowship. This role is designed to ensure the ventures we induct into the Fellowship are among the best suited to achieve scale and success in both business and impact.

For this position, we’re looking for someone with clear and thorough written and verbal communication skills, strong research and analytical skills and confidence in working with entrepreneurs and investment funds. This is an exciting, multi-faceted role balancing a variety of responsibilities, working closely within the Program, Partnership and Community Center of Excellence to guide best practice in Venture Selection origination and diligence. At times this position will work across global time zones.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Venture Sourcing: Identify attractive venture opportunities for the Unreasonable Portfolio related to each partnership; Activate relationships with venture ecosystem players (investors, accelerators, etc.) to gain access to program-specific opportunities; Preliminary assessment of market/impact/company attractiveness to help identify compelling ventures.
  • Venture Pipeline Management: Lead in actively maintaining the venture pipeline to ensure we have our sights on the most attractive opportunities; Monitoring and assessing inbound opportunities of ventures; Developing a systematic database of venture sources (investors, accelerators, newsletters and press releases) and a process for regularly monitoring opportunities; Maintain the Venture Database with updated fundraising figures and regularly create priority opportunities for future programs; Manage the process with external contractors who help maintain the database; Highlighting potential opportunities in attractive market segments for the sourcing team to be proactively connected to aid with program/investment deal flow.
  • Program Stakeholder Management: Assist in the development of investment memos and materials for internal and corporate partner review; Work with Unreasonable team members to maintain transparency and line of sight on objectives, updating stakeholders as needed; Assist program lead in signing, onboarding, and exchanging secured Fellows with other teammates
  • Venture Diligence Support: Support exploratory calls with CEOs and other stakeholders, gathering necessary data to support the selection process (business viability + impactfulness + CEO fit); Input call notes, due diligence material, and additional data into Venture Database; Conduct diligence on venture quality through the following means (not limited to): external expert engagement, market analysis, technology analysis, founding team research, and any additional methods/resources outlined in the Due Diligence Strategy.

  • While the sourcing and selection of ventures will be the team's primary duty, each member is responsible for improving the efficiency and efficacy of our process. The Intern specifically will support an evolving list of strategic projects, including:

  • Scoping Integrations Between Tools, including cleaning the Venture Database and other tools we use for process efficiencies.
  • Systematic Network Building with investors and ecosystem partners by developing a process for growing the network and for providing regular deal flow to maintain relationships.
  • Systematic Sourcing Improvements led by tracking historical conversion rates and program feedback and improving corresponding materials used in the sourcing process.
  • Industry Deep Dives with the wider Investment and Portfolio team to share learnings about a specific field within the climate space, to be developed into thought pieces.
