Job Summary
As a Design Researcher (UXR), you’ll help your team of UX professionals, product managers, and engineers understand user needs. You’ll play a critical role in creating useful, usable, and delightful products. You’ll work with clinical customers and IKS Health stakeholders across functions and levels and have impact at all stages of product development. You’ll explore user behaviors and motivations by conducting primary research such as field studies, interviews, focus groups, ethnography, surveys, usability testing, etc.
This job requires co-location in the greater Dallas or Chicago areas.

User experience is at the forefront of how we create intuitive, innovative, and desirable products that our customers come to rely on in their clinical practice. We strive to learn and understand our users’ needs, behaviors, and emotions to gather insights that inform product strategy and design. We work in collaborative teams to solve complex challenges in a way that ultimately reduces cost, improves access to healthcare and alleviates the burdens on healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Understand and incorporate complex technical and business requirements into research.
- Collect and analyze user behavior through field visits, ethnography, surveys, benchmark studies, server logs etc.
- Work with Designers, Product Managers, Engineers and other UX practitioners to prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
- Conduct usability studies of product concepts to refine product requirements and improve their UI.
- Connect insights to design and collaborate with teammates to create digital tools to improve the efficiency of care for our customers.
- Advocate research findings to diverse audiences through written reports and in-person presentations.
- Structure human-centered research and lead internal and / or external partners through fieldwork, analysis of findings, insight development and all aspects of products and experiences
- Collect and analyze user behavior through field visits, ethnography, surveys, benchmark studies, server logs etc.
- Create deliverables, reports, presentations, and/or videos to document and bring to life insights in an engaging and inspiring way
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Experience with research design utilizing various methods including but not limited to usability studies, contextual inquiry, focus groups and surveys.
- Master's degree in Anthropology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Factors, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of relevant product research experience, either in an end-to-end, usability, or generative setting.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience using technology and digital methods to uncover needs (e.g.: experience conducting online ethnography, implementing remote user studies, moderating/monitoring online communities, collaborating with developers to build web or digital prototypes to gather feedback, etc.).
- Strong understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development process.
- Experience in a variety of product spaces, applied research and/or academic settings.
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience within User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, applied research se ng, and/or product research and development.
- Proficiency in communicating user research findings with cross functional partners to drive impact.
- Graduate degree in Cognitive Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology or related field.
