Position Summary:

Orbital is seeking an experienced senior business development professional to identify, evaluate and pursue new strategic opportunities as well as actively participate in the company’s overall corporate strategy. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the qualified candidate will help define Orbital’s partnering strategy, direct transaction activities and build effective relationships with internal stakeholders and potential partner companies.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with internal teams to enable optimal partnership structures, including with research, finance, IP, legal, and project management to drive partnerships forward and ensure long term success.
  • Leading partnership discussion processes including due diligence, drafting and negotiating term sheets, working closely with legal team on negotiating collaboration agreements, and collecting feedback from various internal stakeholders.
  • Defining and executing on Orbital’s partnering strategy with a focus on establishing the business case for various in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities.
  • Coaching and mentoring other members of the Orbital team on aspects of the deal process.
  • Developing meaningful key relationships with senior management at potential partner companies.


Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, or MBA), coupled with a significant aptitude—and love for—complex scientific discussions.
  • Personally accountable, high integrity.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, project leadership, oral presentation and written communication skills.
  • A thorough understanding of the processes of due diligence, asset valuation, and portfolio management, combined with a deep scientific and business acumen.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude--a result oriented, hands-on, “make it happen” attitude.
  • Ability to generate and/or champion new and creative high-value ideas.
  • The ability to influence others with supporting information and logic.
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in business development.
  • Substantial experience and proven track record in dealing with corporate partners, including negotiating and completing agreements; the ideal candidate has a significant deal sheet consisting of completed buy-side as well as sell-side transactions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
