Staff Ecologist Jobs

Vollmar Natural Lands Consulting is a natural resources research and consulting company with our main offices in Berkeley, Arcata, and Sacramento, California. We have a team of 15 full-time employees and additional seasonal employees. We work throughout California for a variety of clients including private landowners, local and state-wide land trusts, government environmental agencies, and private companies. Much of our work focuses on establishing, managing and monitoring preserve lands and conducting research and projects related to species and habitat conservation and restoration. We also perform environmental consulting work involving baseline surveys, wetland delineations, impact assessments, and permitting support. We are seeking to hire a new full-time staff member to assist with botanical and wildlife surveys, wetland mapping, data entry, report writing, GIS mapping and analyses, and other tasks. The current position is for someone with training in biology, environmental sciences, natural resources management, botany, or a related field. Entry-level and experienced candidates are encouraged to apply. More qualified individuals will also take on some project management. Since our work involves extensive biological field surveys and knowledge of various species and habitats of California, applicants should have an educational and/or work background in field biology and/or conservation land studies with strong data management and writing skills. It is preferred though not required that the selected candidate has skills in GIS and cartography.

Qualifications

We will consider individuals with either an undergraduate or advanced degree. The position is full time and will be based out of our Sacramento office with the option of hybrid or fully remote work. Remote candidates should live in or be willing to relocate to the greater Sacramento area, as team members must travel to job sites in the region. However, we also have offices in Arcata and Berkeley. Interested applicants in those regions should inquire about potential openings to the contacts listed below.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range starting at $23-28/hour for entry-level applicants, with higher rates available for more qualified candidates. Medical, retirement, and vacation benefits are available.
