WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Environmental Remediation Scientist for our Oakland, CA office. The following location will also be considered: Costa Mesa, CA. In this role you will find:

Your Impact

You would be a member of a team providing environmental consulting services ranging from site investigations to remediation projects. The key responsibilities of this position include the following:

• Set up field projects, including permitting; hiring subcontractors; coordinating with staff, laboratories, and subcontractors; and obtaining necessary equipment.
• Maintain a positive attitude and be a team player.
• Perform data review and management.
• Follow company safety standards, site safety standards and provides all required permitting.
• Participating in development of remediation, water treatment and wastewater treatment systems.
• Ensure projects are performed safely.
• Draft portions of reports documenting field and other efforts.
• Perform field work following WSP’s training program, including subcontractor management, field testing for remediation projects, monitoring remediation systems, performing operation & maintenance functions on remediation equipment, and collecting soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment samples, as well as documenting field activities.
• Willingness to travel to project sites throughout California and the West Coast.
• Assist the Project Manager and team in ensuring effective client and regulatory agency communication and relations.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the - Company's driving (MVR) policy.
• Strong technical writing skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability/desire to lead tasks.
• Willingness to occasionally work more than 8 hours per day when necessary for project success.
• Computer proficiency (including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• BS degree in Environmental Science or other related science discipline.
• Attention to detail.
• Must have access to a personal vehicle for work use and local travel.
• Ability to read, interpret and apply information on State and Federal technical guidance, and regulations, and compliance determinations.
• 0 to 1 years related work experience.
• Must have a valid, current Driver’s License (CA preferred) and must have access to a vehicle for field work purposes.
• Demonstrated verbal communication and technical presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (if not, WSP will provide).
• Coursework in chemistry, physics, and data collection/analysis.
• MS degree in Environmental Science, or other related science field.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to drive a large pick-up truck.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions.
• Working in a standing position for the majority of the field workday.
• Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function.
• Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required.
• Ability to use hands to operate field equipment.
• Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required.

Compensation and Benefits:

WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career.

Expected Salary: $58,000 - $70,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
