Job Summary

The Youth Advisor supports the Adolescent Family Life Program (AFLP) by providing positive youth development input in local and California Department of Public Health/ Maternal Child Adolescent Health, decision-making, and implementation of AFLP Positive Youth Development must be a current or former AFLP or Cal Learn client and 21 years of age or younger.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Sensitivity to cultural, economic and language differences.
• Assist the agency with addressing challenges, and make informed decisions to best meet the needs of youth in MCAH programs.
• Participates in meetings (no less than monthly) with CDPH/MCAH to inform of programs that serve expectant and parenting young people.
• Supports the agency in MCAH/AFLP Quality Assurance (QA) efforts.
• Performs other duties as required.
• Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as directed.
• Attend regularly scheduled webinars, required trainings, and meetings with CDPH/MCAH to provide input on AFLP PYD model development and program requirements when needed.
• Assist with data entry and reporting.
• May assist with outreach activities that target AFLP youth and participate in other youth engagement opportunities led by CDPH/MCAH.
• Participates in local stakeholder forums and steering committees.

Education/Experience Requirements

• Must be a current or former AFLP or Cal Learn client.
• Must be age 21 years or younger.

Other Requirements

• Individuals under the age of 18 and attending school must provide a Form B1-4 Permit to Employ and Work, in accordance with California Labor Law.
• Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) acceptable to KCAO's vehicle insurer, if applicable.
• Criminal Record Clearances will not be conducted on individuals under the age of 18.
• Ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency.
• Work variable hours and days, including those outside regular Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours; and, if under 18 years of age, hours worked will be in accordance with California Labor Law.
• Meet and maintain KCAO employment requirements which include:
• Travel and attend out of area meetings and conferences as required per the funding source(s).
• Criminal Record Clearance through the California Department of Justice, FBI and Child Abuse Centralized Index (CACI).*
• Reliably and consistently report to assigned work location on time.
• Health examination with tuberculin clearance.
• Reliable, insured transportation and valid California Driver License, if applicable.
