This Opportunity

WSP, an award winning and innovative multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is looking for a Assistant Sustainability Consultant for the Built Ecology team in Los Angeles, CA. Our team works closely with organizations, owners, developers, architects, and tenants from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability, user experience, and operational efficiency in the built environment.

Built Ecology is WSP’s national Built Environment Sustainability practice, providing a broad range of services including sustainability strategy development, goal setting and workshop facilitation, high-performance design and analysis, building certifications, neighborhood-scale solutions, Net Zero training and education, and performance verification. We work across a wide range of project types and scales, from horizontal planning and district infrastructure to vertical design and construction, to ongoing performance and operations. Built Ecology has been directly responsible for driving many leading projects across the globe, including LEED Platinum buildings, Living Building Challenge and WELL projects, Net Zero energy and water projects, EcoDistricts, corporate programs, and improvements for large building portfolios. Our solutions are typically innovative, integrated, data-driven, and practical.

Our team brings a structured approach while also identifying unique opportunities on each project. We influence strategic decisions to achieve sustainable outcomes in buildings, neighborhoods, and organizations.

Your Impact

  • Support continued improvement of team resources and processes related to healthy buildings
  • Assist other team members on energy, carbon and healthy analysis
  • Creating frameworks and guidelines for healthy buildings
  • Individual and team tasks within ongoing projects including LEED, WELL, RESET, and LBC Certifications
  • Write reports detailing analysis activities and design advice

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the building design and construction process, ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings
  • 0+ years of professional experience in sustainability consulting and green building certifications
  • Familiarity with different healthy building aspects, including but not limited to air and water quality, thermal comfort, biophilic design and circadian lighting
  • Knowledge of sustainable and healthy building services
  • Self-starter, able to work independently as well as multi-task
  • Knowledge of third-party green building rating systems (LEED, WELL, RESET, Passive House, LBC or related)
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Attention to detail and highly organized
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, building science, built environment, and/or sustainability
  • Ability to understand and coordinate energy, daylight, comfort, and other modeling deliverables

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing trainings and presentations on sustainability, green building, healthy buildings, and resilient design.
  • Knowledge of evidence based and performance-based design practices
  • Experience working on projects pursuing building rating systems (LEED or WELL)
  • Computational Design Skills with several Grasshopper plugins for climate, energy and daylight analysis
  • WELL Accredited Professional and/or LEED Green Associate, Accredited Professional

Compensation and Benefits:
WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career.

Expected Salary: $53,200 - $93,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
