At Atlan, we started as a data team ourselves tackling problems like national healthcare and poverty alleviation with data science. (Check out our TEDx talk and case studies.)

The problem: After working on 200+ data projects, we learned how tough it was to scale data teams. Data teams are one of the most interdisciplinary teams ever created. They're made up of analysts, data scientists, engineers, business users – diverse people with their own tooling preferences, skill sets, and "DNA" that need to come together. This leads to collaboration chaos.

We were awoken with crisis calls every second day for the minutest of issues — from troubleshooting why a number on a dashboard was incorrect to difficulties in getting access to the right data set! Atlan started with us building tools to make our own data team more agile.

These tools made our team 6x more agile, helping us take on amazing projects like building India's National Data Platform used by India's Prime Minister. The best part — this was built by an eight-member team, the fastest project of its kind to go live, in a record twelve months instead of the projected three years.

We asked, could the tooling we built for ourselves help data teams around the world? That's how Atlan was born. We're on a mission to help data teams around the world do their lives' best work.

Why this role is important for us?

• Provide first-line support for all India-US-Singapore extra-territorial regulatory compliance.
• Provide legal subject matter expertise for commercial, employment, company secretarial, and local regulatory compliance matters
• You will act as primary legal support to business units and functions for sales and marketing, and operations.
• Provide institutional knowledge, support, and fiduciary oversight concerning corporate and local governance standards, policies, processes, and reporting requirements. Manages local external legal counsel and associated budgets.

You will help us...

• Governing compliance to the requirement of agreements.
• Managing the development of legal strategies for senior management.
• Negotiating/enabling stakeholders to negotiate and bringing NDA/MSA/SOW to closure.
• Drafting and reviewing NDA, MSA, SaaS, EULA, SOW, etc. with customer/vendor/other parties.
• Analyzing and identifying the legal risks and implications of all of the business's transactions, keeping the management and business informed of developments in laws and regulations that potentially affect the business.
• Researching on issues as required.
• Driving conversations (over call, mail, etc.) with stakeholders (internal/external) in US/Europe and India.
• Work closely with the leadership team in leading and improving processes for the functioning of the legal department.
• Develop and recommends innovative process improvements to effectively address the business needs of an aligned country or region.

What makes you a great match

• Advanced university degree in law (e.g. JD or LLB).
• Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating SaaS, EULA, product agreements, etc.
• Typically 3+ years of commercial legal experience at a law firm or in-house.
• Significant experience managing multiple, complex, strategic, issues, and transactions.
• Excellent communication skills - written and oral both
• Broad and deep knowledge of local/regional laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Developed awareness of how to operate successfully in multiple international legal environments.
• Meets local legal license requirements.
• Mastery of legal and relevant business knowledge in multiple practice areas in a country/region.
• Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
• Exposure to India, US, and Europe legal requirements
• Mastery in negotiating or advising senior representatives of organizations on complex and high-value/risk matters.
• English language skills to business standard required.
