THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:
Ulta Beauty has built a diverse ecosystem of data – with the crown jewel being a rich customer dataset with over 40 million active members in our Ultamate Rewards loyalty program. We also have a mature data pipeline that captures many other business critical data signals and makes them available for analytics-driven insights generation and action.
The Senior Analyst is an important part of the Strategic Analytics team that analyzes detailed customer data to develop powerful insights that drive the effectiveness of marketing strategies and guide guest personalization efforts. Our team’s mission is to provide Ulta Beauty a distinct competitive advantage by mining our rich data assets to inform strategic and tactical business decisions. In this role, you will utilize data manipulation and data mining capabilities to support the analysis and reporting needs for our Marketing department. The Senior Analyst will also act as a subject matter expert, communicating the value and tackling the application of innovative analytical approaches for various use cases with multiple stakeholders across Ulta Beauty.
YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS BY:
  • Distill analyses results into clear, concise, and business friendly presentations and deliver those presentations to various levels of audiences including C-suite executives
  • Working closely with IT, support the prioritization and implementation of issue resolution, data enhancements, and upgrades for current and new analytical data sources
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data exploration and BI tools, and recommend tools and methodologies for the team to explore
  • Manipulate and analyze data from Ulta’s big data environment, including customer profile info, advertising results, and transaction data using SQL or similar tools
  • Coach and mentor junior/less experienced team members as needed
  • Be a thought-leader and partner for key business teams related to A/B testing and Incrementality studies, to help assess campaigns or partner’s performance
  • Develop a strong partnership and collaboration with various internal teams at Ulta Beauty, such as the Marketing, eCommerce, Finance, IT, and Merchandising teams by consulting on how to attain the business goals by leveraging customer and marketing data to highlighting insights
  • Ensure data integrity and enforce data standards to achieve consistent data cleanliness, completeness, and accuracy. Identify, monitor, communicate, escalates, and resolve data quality issues
  • Work with internal partners to assess business needs and transform them into meaningful observations by selecting optimal analytic technique(s) depending on the nature of the business problem
  • Own the development and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards in connection with our Marketing team
  • Design and implement intuitive Tableau dashboards and visualizations that will enable business teams to understand and act on insight derived from Ulta’s complex datasets
  • Ensure data integrity by leveraging proven methodologies, including data reconciliation, data integration and data audits
  • Develop automated and intuitive functional dashboards and/or reports to be transitioned to functional teams to visualize key performance indicators (KPIs) and measure performance
THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills - must be able to communicate complex ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Capable of working in a dynamic environment, handling multiple projects, meeting deadlines, prioritizing appropriately, and responding to issues quickly and creatively with an open and positive attitude
  • Proven command of SQL, relational databases, and MS Excel/PowerPoint (R, Python or SAS a plus)
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with customer-level data within Ad Tech, Retail, CPG, Travel & Hospitality or related industries
  • Proven command of SQL, other data querying languages, and relational databases; Hands-on experience handling large amounts of data and working with a variety of data analysis and reporting (BI) tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker etc.
  • Energetic and self-motivated - must be extremely organized and detail oriented with an ability to make proactive recommendations
  • 6+ years of experience developing business strategies resulting from quantitative customer and marketing analytics/data mining, and presenting those results to a client/business partner
  • Ability to work closely with multiple cross-functional teams including Campaign Management, Sales and IT, as well as the ability to work directly with external partners including Ad Agency and Tech vendors
