Job Description

The Role:

We are seeking a Senior Counsel, Labor & Employment to be based in San Juan, PR. We are entrepreneurial, fast- moving, and motivated by a desire to change the way that energy and electricity are delivered in Puerto Rico. We are looking for a motivated, highly experienced individual with shared beliefs and passion to come and help drive the journey.

What you will do:

  • Assist Human Resources in drafting employee-facing policies, handbooks, and other resources, including employee benefit documents.
  • Work closely with the Human Resources department on various employment issues.
  • Responsible for drafting complex employment-related agreements, including offer letters, severance, separation, restrictive covenant, retention, and other employment-related agreements.
  • Work with designing and executing the Company's employment compliance strategies, policies and procedures, training, and investigation management.
  • Advise and counsel on related legal issues such as enforcement of restrictive covenants and legal HR issues (e.g., sexual harassment, consultant arrangements), etc.
  • Assist Human Resources with investigating workplace complaints.
  • Work with Human Resources to develop and deploy training program regarding workplace employment law issues (e.g., anti-harassment, employment discrimination, hostile work environment).
  • Monitor new related Commonwealth and federal laws, regulations, and decisions regarding employment law.

What you bring:

  • Broad experience and knowledge across a range of legal employment matters, including drafting employment agreements, handbooks, and policies, advising on employment disputes and termination issues, and day-to-day employment questions.
  • Experience with the PR unions.
  • Strong educational background. Law degree from US or Puerto Rico law school.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Knowledgeable on EEOC, ADA, workers' compensation, wage and hour claims, employee benefits, and labor laws.
  • 6+ years of related experience.
