Job Purpose

This job is essential to the operation of the optimization processes at the yard. This position assists the Lead Sawyer with all phases of putting together an optimized (cut) package, and reports directly to the Lead Sawyer and Yard Manager out of Vancouver, Washington lumberyard.

Duties And Responsibilities

Quality of Work

• Keeps saw running with no downtime
• Maintain yard and area cleanliness during course of work
• Manages paperwork effectively
• Safely operate all equipment - always pay proper attention and behave in the safest possible manner
• Has product cut, stages, and labeled on time and ready for shipment
• Execute quality control for layouts and proper printing on components
• Parts are cut with material free of defects prior to leaving saw area
• Cut product is stacked properly on the carts
• Safely prepare optimization loads for delivery
• Load the saw with lumber both by hand and with a forklift
• Helps in overall cleanliness of location
• Sort material onto sorting table
• Cut lumber to specific dimensions
• Enforce Lock Out Tag Out program
• Sort, stack and prepare packs by wall number, in effective fashion
• Utilize all proper Personal Protective Equipment at all times (shoes, gloves, glasses, hearing protection, no loose clothes/hair/jewelry, etc.)
• Maintain equipment (remove and install blades as needed)
• Perform daily safety audit of saws and other equipment and promptly report any malfunctioning equipment to Lead Sawyer
• Utilize proper shutdown and maintenance procedures
• Ensures that material is cut accurately, with proper lumber grades

Qualifications

• Knowledge of dimension lumber, species of material, panel products and other building materials
• OSHA Certified Forklift License preferred
• Ability to read and interpret "picking tickets" and invoices
• Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices and protocols
• High school diploma or GED equivalent

• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
