Job Description
The Talent Acquisition department hires qualified candidates to fill positions which contribute to the overall strategic success of Howard University. Hiring staff “for fit” makes significant contributions to Howard University’s overall mission.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Research Coordinator provides full lifecycle research administration support in the processes of grant application preparation, submission, pre-award and post-award activities, and close out. The coordinator collaborates with the department investigators to support and provide guidance on the administration of the compliance, financial, personnel and other related aspects of the clinical research.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Will work directly under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Research, supporting several researchers and research projects as assigned.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Develops and maintains master files on grants and paperwork connected to programs funded by grants.
  • Assists with the educational and data components of the Center of Excellence and Delta Dental grants.
  • Compiles identified data for HRSA grants and provides ongoing oversite for tracking that information throughout the academic year
  • Discusses available sources of funding with administrative managers.
  • Research various types of grants available and the criteria to qualify for each.
  • Coordinates the monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects that are funded by grants.
  • Acts as point of contact and develops relationships with HU parties, sponsor, and sub-contractors to ensure the contract or grant short- and long-term milestones are met.
  • Collaborates with the investigators to prepare IRB and any other regulatory submission documents as required by the protocol. Prepares other study materials as requested by the PI. These study materials include but are not limited to the informed consent document, case report forms, enrollment logs, and drug/device accountability logs.
  • Collaborates with the investigators and department to prepare a categorized budget and justification. Confirms accuracy and completeness of budgeted costs.
  • Completes all documents, forms, or reports required by the grant.
  • Compiles necessary information for the application process through collaboration with other employees, database research, and other factfinding actions and meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Attends investigator meetings as required or requested by the PI.
  • Ensures grant is submitted on time and within application parameters with follow-up as needed.
  • Interprets and applies Federal, State, and sponsors guidelines and requirements.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources.
  • Thorough understanding of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal funding sources and the ability to locate potential sources for funding.
  • Thorough understanding of effective grant writing techniques.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and prepare budgets and financial grant reports.
  • Extremely organized and meticulous with details.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Maintains and tracks required training documents and ensures all parties are in compliance with regulations.
  • Ability to be discreet with personal information that may be needed for some grants such as employee salaries or upcoming projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • MS or Ph.D. degree in biomedical science field required.
  • At least one years of experience in grant writing, research administration or coordination highly preferred.
