Job Description
The Role:


Moderna is seeking a Sr. Research Associate/Principal Research Associate for a position based at their Norwood, MA site. The individual in this role will be a highly skilled, talented and motivated analyst. He/she will participate in performing (bio)chemical and biophysical characterization (e.g. HPLC, light scattering, particle characterization, cIEF, spectroscopy, calorimetry, DNA sequencing, qPCR, etc) of lipid nanoparticles, lipids and mRNA. The individual will work with other RAs and Scientists within the Analytical Development, Analytical Operations, and Platform Analytics teams. The successful candidate must have BS with at least 2 years of industry experience, or MS with at least 1 years of industry experience for the SRA level, or BS with 3-5 years industry experience or MS with at least 1-2 years of industry experience for the Principal RA level. Pertinent experience involves developing and/or performing analytical, molecular, biochemical, biophysical and/or cellular assays. Prior industry experience supporting manufacturing operations (deviations/investigations for clinical products) is desired.


Here’s What You’ll Do:


  • Clearly communicate research findings to a wide audience both internally and externally.
  • Deliver reproducible and impactful results under ambitious timelines
  • Document research and work product in well maintained lab notebooks, analyze and interpret findings for reports, regulatory submissions, and presentations.
  • Perform analytical testing (chromatographic, biophysical, molecular biology techniques etc), data analysis and trending
  • Execute and troubleshoot standard protocols, develop and adapt new protocols into practice, and query literature to incorporate additional assays as needed.


Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic environment
  • Excellent technical writing skills (lab notebook entries, reports, etc)
  • Familiarity with light scattering and other biophysical characterization of particles
  • Creative/innovative/problem solver
  • Preferred:
  • BS/MS (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Material Science, or related science)
  • Experience with HPLC (SEC, RP, HIC), UV, pH, light scattering, cIEF, DNA sequencing, qPCR, etc
  • Familiarity with nucleic acid and protein chemistry
  • Familiarity with analytical characterization of biomolecules
