Position Summary

We are currently seeking one Research Assistant to join our multidisciplinary research team covering fields of psychology, computer engineering, nursing, and public health. The overarching goal of our work is to increase access to care for people with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) across the lifespan. FASD are prevalent developmental disabilities, yet remain among the most underserved conditions across systems of care.

The FASD Continuum of Care Projects are part of the Collaborative Initiative on FASD (CIFASD; www.cifasd.org). We are developing and evaluating several digital and mobile health interventions for mental health providers and individuals with FASD. Specifically, our work includes 3 subprojects:

  • A randomized controlled trial (RCT) of the Provider-Assisted Families Moving Forward (FMF) Connect Program targeting mental health providers treating children with FASD and their families
  • Initial development of the Determined system of apps for adolescents with FASD and their caregivers.
  • A RCT of the My Health Coach app for adults with FASD

Primary responsibilities for the Research Assistant position include 1) assisting the project coordinator with recruitment, 2) tracking and scheduling completion of online research batteries with participants, 3) supporting engagement of community advisory boards, 4) contributing to refinements to interventions as part of the multidisciplinary development team, and 5) coding and managing data. The Research Assistant may also help with other quantitative and qualitative studies in the lab, literature reviews, and manuscript preparation.

The team that makes up these projects emphasize the importance of experience in working with diverse populations across all areas- race, sexuality, gender identity, religious affiliation, etc. Mt Hope Family Center is dedicated to not only upholding DEI in application and hiring processes, but also strives to promote opportunities for learning and growth in areas of DEI (see “Shared Values”).

Qualifications

Required:

Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Child Development, or related field. Previous research experience is preferred. This position is ideal for a recent graduate looking for research experience to be competitive in graduate school admissions. Prior knowledge or experience with FASD is not required, but will be provided as part of the project.

Position Start Date and Duration

The anticipated start date for the Research Assistant position is late June or early July 2023. Applicants are asked to make a 2-year commitment to the project.
