Job Description

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting the Rating Analyst II and Manager in the accurate documentation, communication, and testing of rating and underwriting procedures. This includes training of employees in rating fundamentals and providing technical expertise.
  • Assists in instructing new and existing employees in new procedures and programs.
  • Provides timely communication to Underwriters and Sales Reps regarding implementation or changes to rating procedure, policy, or practice.
  • Conducts renewal, settlement, and proposal audits in accordance with rating support and procedures.
  • Provides various special financial reports or models indicating potential profitability, liability, and trending.
  • Assists in reviewing rating formulae, factors, and procedures for validity. Makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
  • Provides technical support to the IBM LAN area: writes detailed specifications to automate manual calculations, defines changes/enhancements for existing technical programs, tests for accuracy, and approves for departmental use.
  • Assists in providing technical expertise and support, including the creation and revision of rating factors or formulae when necessary
  • Coordinates PC support for Rating and Underwriting area, including troubleshooting.

  • Bachelors degree preferred, preferably in a technical major such as Accounting, Mathematics, Finance, or Statistics.
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years of Group Rating and Underwriting experience.

Knowledge
  • Prefer knowledge of Lotus Notes database reporting and Access.
  • Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and supporting software in a Windows based environment, including MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Lotus Notes; Should be knowledgeable in the use of intranet and internet applications.
  • Prefer presentation experience and/or knowledge of training techniques.
  • Prefer knowledge of company underwriting regulations, products, and benefit offerings.
  • Knowledge of rating and underwriting procedures, including renewals, settlements, and initial rating.

Salary Range:
$75,300 - $100,800
This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. This range has been created in good faith based on information known to Horizon at the time of posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case.
