Job Description
The Purchasing Manager will direct and coordinate purchasing, procurement, and supplier development activities for the location.


What You'll Do:


  • Establish and communicate supplier quality requirements and performance.
  • Supervisor Cost Analysts and oversee the preparation and reconciliation of purchase orders, purchasing reports and other correspondence within the department.
  • Maintain open communications with employees and work with employees to mutually resolve problems to enhance morale and promote a union-free environment.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Procurement Department on the timely procurement of materials, supplies, and services of required quality and at the best value to the Company.
  • Negotiate agreements, specifications, terms, and delivery including the sale of salvage/scrap materials.
  • Manage, direct and coordinate purchasing and supplier development activities for the location.
  • Maintain conformance with Company policies, work rules, and regulations, coaching employees and/or initiating disciplinary actions, as required.
  • Establish strategies for optimizing inventory management at the location.
  • Maintain awareness of improved operational methods, production processes, or equipment which improves quality and efficiency and reduces cost.
  • Analyze and communicate market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality regulations.
  • Interview supplier representatives regarding specifications, performance criteria, volume requirements, and new product opportunities.
  • Monitor supplier performance, initiating corrective action steps when necessary.
  • Monitor inventory of raw materials and other foundry products to maintain required supply through computer information system. Plan for future requirements based on history and production forecasting.
  • Ensure a competent staff is maintained to meet both short and long-term objectives as well as providing for staff development and growth.
  • Determine approved sources for purchasing company supplies. Scrutinize Vendor bids and proposals for the best price, quality, and delivery. Observe quality of purchased materials and arrange vendor contracts, as necessary.
  • Attend Purchasing Manager’s conference as required by Grede Corporate HQ.


What We Need from You:


  • Constant access to confidential information where discretion and care are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Regular external contacts on matters requiring tact, judgment, and proper conduct.
  • Must have excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Good problem detection and resolution skills.
  • Approach work assignments in a positive manner and function as a team member.
  • Typical exposure to general office working conditions with light physical effort. Able to lift up to 20 pounds if needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalentwith 5-7 years’ experience preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to wear all required PPE
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, complete and follow through on projects.
