The Firearms Background Division (FBD) is new division that supports the WSP by managing and administering firearm related background check services for Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) as well as WSP evidence officers releasing a firearm.

Duties

As a Program Specialist 3s (PS3s) you will be leading one of two units:

  • Research and Appeals Unit
  • Firearm Transfer Support Unit
You will prioritize and organize your team's work, managing multiple tasks at once. Provide customer service duties for the Secure Automated Firearms E-check (SAFE) system, make required record entries, and perform background check adjudications.
Our new teammates will be able to:
  • Practice fact-finding on criminal history and related records for firearm purchasers.
  • Provide guidance and answer questions from unit members.
  • Provide technical assistance to SAFE customers.
  • Assume basic supervisory duties in the absence of the unit supervisor.
  • Organize and prioritize your unit's work.
  • Study criminal history records to determine if there are prohibiting factors that prevent individuals from lawfully purchasing or possessing firearms.
  • Interpret federal, state, and local law.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work irregular shift hours (i.e., weekends, holidays, modified, flex, or overtime shifts as needed).
  • Two years of lead work or supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High school graduation or GED equivalency.
  • Moderate experience in managing high volumes of work at once.
