The Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has three major operational divisions: Colorado National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. These divisions utilize state and federal resources to provide our communities, state, and nation with a ready military force for national defense and state emergency response as well as providing assistance to our Colorado Veterans.

This position in the Grand Junction area and will serve servicemembers, retirees and their dependents, departmental employees, and Department of Defense employees with registering, verifying eligiblity, renewing, and issuing Department of Defense identification cards within a governmental database system (DEERS). This position works five days a week, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and will require an individual skilled in office management to facilitate the creation and oversight of establishing the DEERS Operator services to our veterans. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Becoming a subject matter expert on necessary documentation and requirements for a variety of individuals' eligibility for an identification card;
- Directly accountable for accuracy, correctness, completeness, legality, and compliance with all conditions required to issue identification cards;
- Understanding, maintaining, and applying HIPPA and PII rules and regulations at all times;
- Participating in unit deployment preparation in the region and veteran activities.
- Answering phones, making copies, faxing, creating and writing letters and memoranda on behalf of facility operations; and
- Receiving and maintaining a federal security clearance at all times to allow continued access and use of federal database;
- Updates individual records on request and verifies record information such as emergency data and contact information for every interaction;
- Identifying gaps and inconsistencies in records and initiates actions, interviews requestors, and obtains and downloads appropriate data in support of their request for an I.D.;
Must be able to obtain a TOP Secret Clearance within the first month of employment.
Must be a Colorado resident.
Three years of general clerical experience of which at least:
- Two of these years included professional management of an office unit,
- And one year included independent oversight of an office environment.
Preference
Preference will be given to an individual who already has a security clearance and/or has experience working with DEERS/RAPIDS database systems and establishing eligibility within those systems.
Conditions of Employment
- Must be able to pass a background check at initial employment (felony convictions in backgrounds are not consistent with departmental and position security requirements and cannot be considered).
- Continued employment is conditional upon the successful completion of and maintenance of a security clearance within the first six months of employment. Must be able to maintain a security clearance during the duration of employment.
