Rolling Stone, the leading voice of popular culture for more than 50 years, is adding a reporter to our politics section — writing and reporting news stories about Washington’s most colorful characters and most controversial issues, and the 2022 campaign’s most intriguing races.

Join our fun, fast-paced, talented team as a political reporter. The ideal candidate has a deep source base, a hunger to break news, and an understanding at an instinctual level what makes a story work for Rolling Stone. This candidate should be able to write and report stories that will appeal to audiences from a wide variety of communities. Finally, the candidate must have the ability to craft features, deliver scoops, and respond to fast-moving events quickly, accurately, and with style.

Responsibilities:

• Investigate and uncover news about Washington’s worst actors
• Deliver exclusive stories and features on Congress; campaigns; and divisions inside the two major political parties.
• Brainstorm ideas with other reporters, editors, photographers, video producers, and social media managers.
• Break news that advances major stories of the day.

Requirements:

• The ability to juggle several stories and projects at the same time and keep a cool head under pressure
• Familiarity with digital news gathering tools
• 3-5 years of experience in political journalism
• A proven track record of delivering exclusive and high-quality material on deadline, at least 2-3 times a week
• A deep source base, both in the political mainstream and at the fringes
• A commitment to collaborating with colleagues at every level of the organization

Typical range: 65k-80k

Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits. As part of our company-wide rollout of PMC’s paid healthcare plan, for this role the company pays 100% of the monthly health, dental and vision plan premiums for the employee and their family.
