Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic individual to lead our Program Management Office (PMO) as the Director. The PMO Director is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of our organization's projects and programs, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, optimizing resource allocation, and driving a culture of excellence in project management practices. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership, communication and strategic thinking abilities to effectively manage a diverse portfolio of initiatives.


Job Duties/Description:

Strategic Leadership

·Develop and execute the PMO's strategic vision, goals, and objectives in alignment with the organization's overall strategy.

·Collaborate with senior leadership to define the PMO's role in driving business growth, innovation, and operational excellence.

·As a member of Essnova’s leadership team, participate in weekly meetings and quarterly strategic business planning meetings.

·Work with senior leadership to align internal PMO initiatives based on strategic impact, resource availability, and organizational goals.


Portfolio & Client Project Management

·Manage a diverse portfolio of projects and programs, overseeing their planning, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery.

·Assume direct ownership of key client projects within Essnova’s portfolio, providing oversight from initiation to successful delivery.

·Act as the client’s primary point of contact for projects under direct management and as the first point of escalation for projects across Essnova’s portfolio.

·Collaborate with clients to define project scope, objectives, and success criteria while ensuring alignment with their expectations.

·Provide an exceptional customer experience to client and partner contacts, anticipating needs and responding quickly, communicating frequently and taking accountability for all aspects of delivery.


Resource Management

·Allocate and manage resources efficiently to optimize project execution, balancing workload and skill sets.

·Identify and address resource constraints and bottlenecks to ensure projects stay on track.


Governance and Standards

·Establish and enforce project management methodologies, best practices, and governance standards to ensure consistent and effective project execution.

·Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the PMO's effectiveness and report weekly on these metrics during weekly leadership team meetings.


Stakeholder Engagement

·Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, executives, and stakeholders to ensure alignment, effective communication, and smooth project execution.

·Manage expectations and communicate progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.


Risk Management

·Identify potential risks and issues across projects and programs and develop mitigation strategies.

·Lead efforts to manage and minimize risks to project timelines, budgets, and outcomes.


Talent Development

·Foster a culture of continuous learning, growth and accountability within the PMO team.

·Coach and mentor project managers and team members in line with the company’s values and cultural expectations.


Issue Resolution

·Identify potential issues and obstacles in project execution or within the PMO and work with the team to resolve them promptly.

·Identify any gaps in roles, responsibilities or communication and work to address them.


Change Management

·Facilitate the adoption of new project management tools, methodologies, and processes across the organization.

Champion a mindset of adaptability and flexibility in response to changing business needs.


Minimum Requirements:

  • 3+ years of Federal Experience
  • Reside in DC Metro Area
  • 5+ years of experience in leading a project management office
  • 15+ years of expert-level program, project and change management in a variety of methodologies,
  • TS Clearance required
  • Experience with project management software and tools
  • Authorized to work in the US
  • Bachelor's degree in business or communications field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Analytical skills: to evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, distinguish presented user requests from the underlying true needs, and distinguish solution ideas
  • Ability to engage with senior leaders and executive team and clearly communicate strategy and status of the work managed within the project management office
  • Exceptional verbal/written communication, detail and action orientation, collaboration, negotiation, facilitation, and influencing skills to lead an environment driven by client service and teamwork
  • Strategic communication: able to simplify the complex with proven experience presenting to top level executives and influence stakeholders
  • PMP certification or equivalent
  • Ability to direct, motivate, and empower others to work towards the organization's goals, ensuring efficient allocation of resources across multiple functions


Additional Skills:

  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Master’s Degree (Preferred)
  • Ability to adapt to various people and working styles under tight deadlines.
  • Editing skills; excellent knowledge of grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to work beyond regular scheduled hours.
  • Possess excellent leadership, communication, prioritization, and organizational skills.
