Oral Surgery Assistant Ii - Aoms Columbia

The primary responsibilities for this position include assisting surgeons with consultations, surgeries, providing post-operative care, processing instruments, and other clinical duties as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs other procedures as directed (capture radiographs, take/pour dental impressions, capture intraoral digital scans, remove
• Sets up for procedures with appropriate instruments, equipment, and supplies
• Reviews post-op instructions with surgery patients/patient escorts
• Maintains sterile field during designated procedures
• Assists surgeons during surgical procedures, including suctioning, retracting, passing instruments, and providing airway support
• Collects and enters comprehensive and precise information into the EMR
• Surgical splints, fit splints, remove sutures, place dry socket packs, etc.)
• Updates patient medications and allergies at each patient encounter
• Participates in crash cart training to become familiar with emergency medications and supplies
• Circulates on surgical procedures, completing necessary EMR (electronic medical record) entries, paperwork, logs, etc.
• Prepares patient and room set-up for appropriate procedure/exam

Other Responsibilities:

• Other duties as directed
• Participates in all mandatory EMR and clinical application training and optimization opportunities
• Helps in sterilization and restocking clinical supplies
• Reviews schedule at least one week in advance and prepares as necessary (make sure implants, abutments, splints, stents, etc. are available at the appropriate office)
• Utilizes the EMR and any supplementary clinical applications relevant to daily job duties
• Reports any damage equipment discovered during routine cleaning and use

• Participates in all mandatory EMR and clinical application training and optimization opportunities
• Reports observed or suspected violations, hazards, and noncompliance according to practice policy
• Responds to emergency situations with competence and composure

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current BLS certification¹
• Sterile processing certification/experience¹
• Completion of limited Dental Assisting program, OR 1-2 years experience in general dentistry/oral surgery practice
• IV/Phlebotomy certifcation²
• Infection control training¹
• Dental Radiography certification²
• Anesthesia-related continuing education²
• Successful completion of approved nitrous oxide course²
• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

• Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) certification
• Oral and maxillofacial surgery experience
