  • Use of mail meter
  • Data entry into specific Public Work computer applications, which would also include scanning, uploading, and electronic filing of various documents;
  • Maintaining office filing system;

  • 37.5 hours per week *Note: Keyboarding proficiency is a minimum requirement of this position. Candidates who have not previously held a keyboarding title must pass a 5-minute typing session and must achieve a speed of 30 words per minute (WPM) with at least 96% accuracy in order to meet the NYS DCS keyboarding standard.If Civil Service Eligible list(s) exist, they will be canvassed. Please provide a copy of your 55b/c letter when applying. You must meet the open competitive qualifications from the most recent examination announcement.Reassignment Qualifications:Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in a/an Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) eligible list for this location, if one exists.Provisional Qualifications:There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this position. However, for those being considered for appointment, you will be required to pass a keyboarding test that demonstrates your ability to enter text at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy. The appointed candidate will have to take, pass and be reachable on the next holding of the examination to be appointed permanently.70.1 Transfer Qualifications:One year of permanent or contingent-permanent as a Grade 6 or higher determined to be similar by Civil Service. Candidates being considered for appointment, will be required to pass a keyboarding test, if they have not already taken and passed a keyboarding test.Note: For all transfers noted, a comprehensive list of titles approved for transfer is available through Civil Service GOT-IT at https://careermobilityoffice.cs.ny.gov/cmo/gotit/ .Standard Duties:As an Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) you will format and type correspondence, reports, forms, charts, and other materials to product final copy that is accurate and grammatically correct. This work is carried out under varying conditions of direction, availability of guidelines, and by the skilled use of a computer utilizing a variety of software packages (i.e. Word; Excel).Incumbents would also be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
  • Preparing packages and labels for certified/priority mail;
  • Handling all functions of incoming and outgoing mail (i.e., date stamp and distribute mail to appropriate office personnel);
