SEH is currently searching for a talented Transportation Planner with Environmental Documentation experience who wants to be part of a team that provides exceptional service to our clients. This position would report into the Transportation Practice Center in our Central Region. This person is eligible to work from home. Together we are working on innovative multi modal transportation planning and design projects for our clients in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota and beyond. This position can be remote and work out of any of those locations!


SEH’s Transportation Planning team thinks beyond congestion and takes transportation planning to the next level. They investigate how diverse and dynamic multimodal transportation networks affect drivers, bikers, businesses, residents and even the land within a community. This collaborative team uses the latest traffic modeling techniques to plan, coordinate and implement intelligent transportation systems and is at the forefront of improving mobility for all.

What You Will Be Doing


  • Environmental documentation (NEPA Administration)
  • Conducting transportation planning studies and corridor studies
  • Prepare draft and final transportation planning project reports and technical memos
  • Assist in marketing all types of transportation and other planning consulting projects
  • State Environmental Assessment Worksheets and Federal Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements
  • Interact with clients on behalf of the company on projects including project meetings, public meetings and workshops


Required Qualifications


  • Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, on-site inspections/visits, etc.
  • Four (4) years of experience in general planning; bike trails, roads, etc.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
  • Previous experience conducting studies and analyses
  • Understanding of Federal and State of Minnesota environmental review requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or Civil Engineering or related discipline with an emphasis in transportation or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication / presentation skills
  • Minimum of two (2) years of consulting and public sector experience in transportation planning and/or environmental documentation


Preferred Qualifications


  • Environmental documentation (NEPA Administration)
  • Knowledge of the regional transportation planning/funding process and Federal/regional/local agency roles and interrelationships
  • Previous experience with multimodal studies and analysis including bicycle and pedestrian plans
  • Certified Planner (AICP) or Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota or the ability to obtain registration within one year of employment
