Position Overview
StrongMynd is looking to partner with independent contractors who are experienced and outstanding mental performance professionals, passionate about making an impact on clients’ lives. In this role, you will be a key player in our efforts to prioritize mental wellness for athletes and expand access to a highly personalized, stepped-care model that partners with universities and other unique communities. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse and specialized culture and to contribute to the growth of a fast-growing behavioral health company.
Responsibilities of the MPC
- Deliver culturally sensitive, client-centered care that is respectful of diversity.
- Develop measurable mental life skill-based plans tailored to meet the individual needs and goals of each client, within scope of practice.
- Apply assessment/screening tools, professional experience, good judgment, and StrongMynd guidelines to discern need for referral and to escalate care, as needed.
- Provide high-quality screening, assessment and mental performance coaching and care in accordance with established best practice and evidence-based programming.
- Document all client interactions and sessions in accordance with established timeframes and compliance standards, using StrongMynd chosen EHR, client engagement, telehealth and other platforms to assure consistency of records, data, analytics and to facilitate, when necessary, referral to a higher level of interventional support by licensed professional therapists within the StrongMynd provider ecosystem.
- Communicate through reports, notes and other communications with other members of clients/clinical team to collaborate on their care plan (with client written consent).
- Adhere to StrongMynd policies and procedures, maintain good standing with all licenses.
- Work individually with clients to formulate actionable mental life skill building plans and attainable goals, encourage and support progress through regular exercises, assessments, interactions, and through resources and strategies.
- Collaborate with StrongMynd support team to ensure that clients receive appropriate support and care. Coordinate care with the Athlete Advocate, licensed professional therapists, Athletic Department Officials, University Support Staff, and other professionals as needed.
- Meet all continuing education requirements for licensure and specializations.
- Maintain a confidential and professional virtual office space.
Mental Performance Coach Requirements
- Agree to participate in StrongMynd on-boarding, trainings and orientations
- Meet HIPAA compliance, device, computer equipment, connectivity, encounter, documentation and other StrongMynd policies and requirements to deliver services to StrongMynd clients
- Provide flexible scheduling options to meet clients outside of “normal” business hours, e.g., early mornings, evenings, weekends.
- Use StrongMynd platform(s) for StrongMynd client base and services
- Maintain professional malpractice liability insurance with minimum coverage limits of $1,000,000/$3,000,000 and which complies with industry, regulatory and other governing requirements and with StrongMynd policies.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to communicate and interact closely with athletes, coaches, medical and performance staff members and administrative personnel.
- Certification as a Certified Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) is preferred.
- A positive personality with a passion for assisting others in achieving their goals.
- Demonstrate knowledge of HIPAA confidentiality and privacy policies in order to work within a HIPAA-controlled environment.
- Masters of Science degree in Sports Psychology, Cognitive Science, Kinesiology or related field is preferred.
- Success implementing strategies for athletes to cope with and overcome injuries.
- Thorough understanding of sports culture and the ability to display sound judgement.
- Up-to-date knowledge of the latest trends, leading practices, and technology in the cognitive performance space.
- Demonstrate appropriate professional boundaries and behavior.
- Experience tailoring strategies that assist athletes in overcoming difficulties, improving performance, and preparing for competition.
- Consistently apply emergency/crisis responses consistent with established standards of practice and in compliance with university emergency response protocols.
- Have strong technology skills, including the ability to use electronic health records, deliver telehealth services, and complete online training requirements.
- Demonstrate strong evaluation skills, ability to relate and connect quickly with clients, empathic listening skills and cultural and diversity competence.
- Experience as a Sports Psychologist or Mental Skills working with youth between 17 and 24 years of age. Personal history and/or experience working with individuals living within highly competitive, high stress ecosystems is a BIG plus.
- Demonstrate professionalism, diplomacy, respect, discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information and communicating with clients.
- A positive personality with a passion for assisting others in achieving their goals.
