The Mental Health Case Worker determines the eligibility of clients for services, assesses needs, and provides case management services as an unlicensed qualified mental health professional to students diagnosed with mental health problems.
This recruitment will be used to establish an Eligibility List for current Mental Health Case Worker vacancies as well as any future vacancies. This list will be active for three (3) months with the possibility to be extended. Positions are typically full-time (40 hours) and may work 10, 11, or 12 months. Positions greater than 20 hours per week qualify for district-paid health and wellness benefits for the employee and their eligible dependents.
This is a promotional/open opportunity, which means that current monthly-salaried employees receive precedence over other candidates on the eligible list.
- For a promotional/open posting, the top ten internal applicants will be provided unless there is an insufficient number and then the list will be supplemented with the top external applicants to make up the ten (Employment Regulations for the Classified Service of the San Diego Unified School District: Article 2, Section 9).
The Mental Health Case Worker will be paid on the OTBS Salary Schedule.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to a master's degree in psychology, social work, or mental health counseling and one year of experience with children and adolescents in a mental health setting.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid California driver's license and availability of private transportation (mileage expense allowance provided). Some positions may require bilingual Spanish skills.
- Must be registered with the California State licensing board toward obtaining a mental health clinician license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), or Licensed Clinical Psychologist prior to employment.
- Foreign Equivalency Certification: Individuals who have completed high school or college-level coursework at an institution in a country other than the United States must provide a Foreign Equivalency Certification to satisfy the education requirement.
