Job Description

Position Overview:Southeast Connections, LLC provides inclusive infrastructure solutions for the natural gas industry. We construct the systems and facilities to transport the nation's cleanest burning energy resource. Southeast Connections offers complete construction services that include pipeline construction, installation, maintenance, repairs, stations, facility modification, and new construction. The Materials Manager is responsible for the planning, procurement of pipe and fittings, storage control, and distribution of materials needed by the company to meet production requirements. This position is responsible for keeping track of inventory throughout the year, including yearend physical inventory and cycle counts for warehouses and crews at all locations. The Materials Manager oversees approximately fifteen employees.


Essential Functions:The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain and ensure the accuracy of the perpetual inventory system.
  • Follow procedures for conducting and valuing mid-year and year-end physical inventory, and cycle counts throughout the year for warehouse and crews.
  • Monitor inventory levels and access to the material.
  • Record and assess all materials quality, movement, and expenditure.
  • Establish new warehouse locations and crews if needed; this includes ordering material, tooling, supply, and equipment rentals.
  • Work with Procurement to research potential vendors and negotiate prices.
  • Recommend solutions to existing processes to reduce waste and increase quantity.
  • Work with management to identify supply needs and future forecasting models.
  • Supervise the entering of checkouts, receipts, usages, and purchase orders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret construction drawings to create a list of needed material; work with management when contracts are awarded to develop a complete project package, including all project documentation, bid budget, timeline, schedule, subcontracts, etc.
  • Communicate daily with pipe and fittings vendors to ensure we keep the necessary stock to bridge gaps in market shortages. Maintains inventory levels to ensure we meet production deadlines.
  • Manages a team of approximately 15 employees, including hiring, training, disciplinary actions, terminations, and performance reviews. This requires routine and non-routine travel to remote warehouse locations, occasionally on weekends to ensure no disruption to production on Monday mornings. May require up to 30% travel time (especially during mid-year and year-end counts)
  • Ensure all materials needed are available to meet production requirements. This requires a deep understanding of differing grades and yields of steel and plastic fittings.
  • Manage the distribution of supplies in the organization.

Qualifications/Special Knowledge Skills:

  • Solid computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, and Outlook.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excels at operating in a fast-paced environment, where multiple deadlines are critical.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and outside parties to maximize performance, creativity, problem-solving, and results.
  • Effective time management skills, understands how to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates commitment to high professional ethical standards.
  • Requires a working knowledge of the pipeline construction industry.


Education/Experience:

  • Knowledge of the pipeline construction industry preferred.
  • Five years of experience in materials control field required.
  • Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management systems.
  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related field desired.
  • Knowledgeable in forecasting and budgeting.

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently
